Default Fog Light Mod Question....

I was reading on neons.org last night about someone modifying their ('02) fog light housing to accept a 9005 bulb, and it got me thinking... Would it be possible to run them in a parallel, or in a series circuit with the head lights? I would want them to be set up so that when the headlights were on low beam, the fogs would be on high beam, and vice versa, both giving about the same amount of light output, but at different heights, so not to blind other drivers. Electrical engineers, electrical genious' etc... is this possible? Can I run head light bulbs in a fog light housing utilizing both high and low beams run off from the headlight wiring harness??? If someone thinks this is stupid, dont flame me... I was just trying to come up with an original mod that would give everyone more options for fog light bulbs.... Thanks for any help ahead of time!

Don't worry, it's not a stupid idea! Do you have an SRT or a regular Neon? The reason I ask is...although the SRT owners manual indicates the fogs are 9145's...they are really a 893 style bulb. Yes, a 9005 COULD be modified to work in a 9145 application but, the 893 is a different animal all together! I spent a good 45 minutes of my time one day in Pep Boys looking at the 9145's vs. the 9005's and 9006's. The I went outside and looked at my fogs (with 893 style bulbs) and realized that I just wasted 45 minutes of my life. (Who wrote that damn manual anyways!)

Also, the 9005 and 9006 bulbs are ONLY SINGLE ELEMENT bulbs! NOT high/low bulbs!

I am running the 893 Eurolite's (still 37.5 watts) in my SRT. Another "brighter" bulb is the 885 which is a 50 watt bulb. I ran those for 3 years in my '99 Dakota R/T fog's with no problems (except some pissed off on-coming drivers!...sorry to those folks!)

Thanks a lot for all the help! I wonder if there are any dual filament bulbs that could fit in the housing then?

Thanks for letting me know which years had the 9145's! I do not know of any dual filament bulbs with that type of base but,......those car designer's are coming up with ideas everyday!

FYI: What I am planning on doing to my car is install a set of HELLA Optilux 2500's. These are driving lights with angel eyes and they will fit our cars! Of course you must make your own bracket though. They came with 50 watt H-3 bulbs and I bought a set of 100w "off road" bulbs for them. Yes, with all the high speed driving I do...I want to see the deer BEFORE I hit them! You can also go with the Optilux 1300's which do not have the angel eyes! BTW: I got two sets (complete kits) of these on eBay for $22.00 each. Not sure how I want to wire in the Angel Eyes though.

Take care!

I'm planning to do the same thing with the Optilux 2500s come spring. They've been sitting in my basement for way too long now; bought 'em originally for my 99 but never got around to doing anything with 'em.

If you're successful, post the reults so we can see what you did for brackets!
