Default FINALLY!!! FULL control of your foglights! l00k!...

okay....since day 1....a pet peeve about this damn car of mine has been that you HAVE to have the damned headlights on in order to have the foglights on, and not only that, but once u do...they shut off when switch on your highbeams. Besides that....i since always wanted to do the following 3 things:

1) be able to turn the foglights on WITHOUT the parking/cluster lights switched on

2) be about to turn the foglights on ONLY WITH the parking/cluster lights switched on

3) be able to KEEP the foglights on WHILE the highbeams are switched on

basically...have FULL independent control at your finger tip of the foglights whenever you wish in whatever of those senarios you wish. Well...i finally did it today! To make it short and simple...here's what's involved:

BEFORE WE BEGIN!: Get your parts/tools you need for the job:

a) switch, got from radio shack, part # 27-693 - $2.86
b) drill and drill bit (5/8 but use a smaller one to start the hole, and you will have to make it a bit wider in the end)
c) wire - 12/16 gauge
d) use a sauder gun w/sauder, heat shrink wrap, and black electrical tape
e) wire cutter/stripper

1) LET'S GO!
first, remove the kick panel under the steering column w/the 2 screws holding it in place. *note: be careful not to break the snap tabs that hold it in up top*

2). mount your switch on the little tab behind the stock headlight lever, use the drill bit as mentioned above to mount.

3) once mounted, now open up the side gray fuse panel inside the car on the driver's side of the dash. remove the two screws holding the fuse box in place so you can pull it out and get to the bundle of wires in the back of it.

4) locate the pink wire w/the green stripe on it

5) tap into the pink wire w/the green stripe and run it that extenstion you tapped into it with to one prong on your switch from radio shack

6) now, run another wire from the other prong on your switch to a 12v source in the car

7) that's it! have fun, clean up shop, and put the car back together and voila! FULL CONTROL of your fogs how dodge SHOULD have made it from the start!

*NOTE* i'd highly recommend for a pristine clean-cut job, to sauder all your connections up where you tapped into, slide some heat shrink wrapping over every one, use a lighter to apply heat to it to make it shrink down, then wrap around it w/black electrical tape

compliments and MAJOR thanks to Cali's how-to here, click to see through it and use the pics to help: (btw...for FULL control like i just wrote up, you use the EASIER method believe it or not, which is method #2 in the link below)

I didn't understand your instructions. Why don't you do it on my car so maybe I'll understand then.

Fog lights go off when high beams come on because of federal regulations, or so I was told. But full controll of them is good for us public folk.

Yay a cheap mod that I like and can do over the winter storage. I may even attempt some power rear windows too. Thanks.

back on topic -

Nice writeup and thanks for posting this information!

Some questions:

1) your instructions in pdf say locate wire as shown - could you change it to the color combo - looks green and pink? Easier to understand.

2) When you say cut away, do you mean cut it off totally? Your pics look like you just spliced them and the instructions up top say the same. Sorry, I am just a slow learner!

3) couldnt you connect it to a switched 12+ ignition so when the key is turned off, the fogs will go off and no way to accidentally kill the battery!
I think Hectors turbo timer instructions may mention one! Just curious

Thanks!

hey man, you're welcome, but like i said, the PDF is not mine, it's what i used to do mine...CALI made the how-to. and anyhow, for your ?'s:

1) the color combo i stated in the oringal post, it is the pink wire w/the green stripe (go back and read)

2) the PDF says to get a wire tapper and do it that way, but i dont trust them for some reason, so on my own personal install, i cut the wire in half, stripped away both ends, and attached a new wire stemming off to go to the switch, then SOLDERED everything up, heat shrinkwrapped it and then electrical taped it up.

3) and yes...u CAN put it on a 12v switched power source, i didnt because i just didnt want to lol I like being able to turn stuff on when the key is totally off, thats just me. PLUS.....i figured this, #1...how could u forget to turn your foglights off? i mean....you'll see them on! lol and #2....even when you flip the switch, the little foglight emblem light illuminates on the dash that tells you they're on....so u cant miss it!

w3rd. So easy. Just finished and it's awesome. And yea, I hooked it up to my relay and there's no way I can leave them on w/o the ignition/accessory on (key in).
