Since I've gotten alot of feedback via PM about some people wanting to see something other than the black housing style I do, I took that into concideration and have began working on a custom chrome housing similar in shape/style to the black ABS housings I do, only this will be in chrome. The material should be at my home by this weekend (crosses fingers) so hopefully I'll be able to play with a few designs and hopefully take some prototype pics for you all. The material is not metal and is UV treated. I will be doing the intial testing on my car for about a month or so to ensure nothing crazy goes on with the material with heat, sunlight, moisture, glare, aesthetics, etc. Another idea that is roaming inside my head is custom colormatched headlights with smooth glossy finished enclosures painted to be colormatched specifically to SRT paint codes. That is later on down the road after I get a pre-mold finalized for the company making the mold.
Also be on the lookout for the custom painted LED tail pics sometime next week. for those that do not know, I'm custom painting the aftermarket LED tails a red transparent color to mimick a more oem LED taillight housing found on oem LED equipped cars (think Caddy, BMW, Infiniti). I will also try colormatching a set or two for some local SRT people so we'll see how those turn out as well. Probably a orange blast pearl and a e-blue or yellow LED tail.
These are just a few of the things soon to come so be on the lookout! I'm trying to allow us neon/SRT owners a way to put some personality in our cars other than just go fast goodies. Having things custom made or colormatched will always set you apart from the crowd.
Let me know if any of this is interesting to you...

YOu know what would be truely sick is a set of headlights like yours hack but paintmatched to the car....I know this would require alot of work and cost alot of money lol....but a good idea.

Thats what I said in the post. Its something i'm working on in the future and would be a expensive process but truelly unique too.
Let me first say, damn this stuff is very mirror finish. I'll let the pics do the rest to show you how smooth and shiney this is going to be. Once I start on these two peoples' TL retros I'm doing, I'm going to fab on of these into the design i'm doing to show you guys what it will look like in a headlight all retroed up
hak how much will you be asking for the headlights? i want a set in black as soon as you can make them
$250+shipping for the black housings is my labor. You will have to ofcourse buy the projectors and DEPO oem replacements and send them my way. I'm working on 2 TL retros right now.

If you get a list of people that want to buy pairs of lights I may entertain a special price on sets. Or, if your turnaround was quick enough, you should just put a "Loaner" set in rotation so people could send you their originals and have you re-work those without going without headlights.
One other thought for people that want the interior of the light painted body color- I would STRONGLY recommend measuring the temperature of the housing surfaces after a couple hours of the projector being on. I don't know that it would be an issue...but I would check with a thermal strip that measures these things.

Nice idea. The only real issue is wether people would be serious or not enough to make it efficient enough for you to make a "special price" for people to buy the DEPO oem replacements. Usually its only the die-hard lighting fans that appreciate a retro and the costs or getting all the proper oem HID equipment, but thats the cost of having superior lighting over the rest. Some are willing to pay, others are not. Usually I have alot of people interested in getting a retro, and then once I let them know what all they have to buy or what all the total cost involved is, usually they back out.
As far as heat issues are concerned. HID burns at a lower temperature than halogen does. I've been retroeing and painting interior headlight pieces for years, never once had a issue. Lots of my friends and I have painted trim peices that sit inside the headlights and all of them seem to fair fine over several months use, some even have their insides painted ongoing now for a few years, no issues
The main parts that anyone would have to worry about being affected by heat is the parts that are either recieveing a direct beam or a refraction in light close by the source. Since I don't use the stock reflector, there is no object that recieves refrected or reflected light from the projector since the projector shoots out a narrow beam that only hits the lens and doesn't rely on a reflector to distribute light output, thus heat.
This chrome piece of material I'm going to test and use sits behind the lens of the projector and around the lens' trim bezel. The same area I use to attach and afix my ABS enclosres. This area does not get that hot to be that concerned about. Its finger-safe hot in other words.

I understand that. I was more concerned with non-HID projectors. In my return pile out here I've got some with blistered finishes in them (factory), I stated that it may not be an issue...just something to thing about.
BTW: I renamed my cat HackNGag...thus far she doesn't respond to it...but she'll come around.
