Default clear corners/ rear licence plate light Q's...

Ok, First - the clear corners issue. I replaced the old yellow stock side marker lights with clear corners a while back, and swapped out the amber bulbs with super white bulbs from autozone or something.
Problem: Apparently the bulbs have gotten so hot the have melted the bulb socket housing to the bulb, compromising the vacuum of the bulb, and now I have no lights (side lights). I went to the dealership, and they told me there isn't a part for just that socket wiring, that I would have to replace the entire engine harness ($250). Where can I go to find just the bulb socket wiring so I can just splice the new wiring onto the old stuff, and not have to replace the entire assembly? I don't have any idea where to find a junkyard or something that I can search though that's not 100+ miles away from Los Angeles...

Also - Part 2:
Does anyone know what kind of bulb is over the licence plate, or how to get to it? I'd like to replace it with a red bulb, for cosmetic puposes.... :P

the bulb should be a 194 for the side marker, 194a if you want an amber one. Autozone or pep boys should carry a pig tail socket assem. to fit these bulbs (2 wire, 1 postive and 1 ground) and i think i have one off my 92 daytona that will fit, giveme your e-mail and i can send you a pic.

sorry its so long.

i'm aware of the legalities... wouldn't be the first thing that wasn't legal...
i.e. - clear corners with white bulbs, no front license plate, tint on my front windows in CA, BOV, etc...

well - off to Autozone!

For the bulb on the plate you have to remove the plastic part in your trunk where the trunk lock is. It is held on by the same type of clips that hold on all the other trim parts in the car. On my car I had to grasp the part from the bottom and pull out and up.

shweet! thanks for the info guys.

As for the Harness, Rich- thanks, but I'm gonna look for some old neons so I can just splice it, and the socket will still twist on to the corners, as I'm buying new ones anyway. thanks though!

This should do the trick....

Most Autoparts stores sell the Dorman/Motormite line of products.

That won't work, at least on 2004. You need to unbolt the light bulb housing from under the the bumper in the license plate area. Two screws and it's out. Once it's out, r&r the bulb and put the assembly back.

Clear corners with white bulbs IS legal in CA. Its the lack of an amber reflector surface thats illegal.

White and amber are the legal colors for parking and side marker lights.
