Default Can I replace my OE foglights with aftermarket fogs?..

Such as these: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/I...D:100000191072

I'm not too worried about the "projector" looking function of it, nor am I crazy about all the HID stuff. I would like just to have a neat black surrounding fog light rather than our OE "fogged" up lights. I dont really care about output or how bright they are...

It says that it runs an H3 bulb at 55w. I understand our OE fogs run on a 10 amp circuit with an 893 bulb (I believe). I'm not that great with electrical stuff, but will something like those drop right in to our existing wiring? just splice the wiring to our existing harness? I really don't want to fry anything and have to buy a MFS.

Or should I run it on a seperate circuit, relay, fuse and switch like I would if I was adding these to a car without OE foglights already installed? Or maybe just run another relay in the system similiar to haks favored fog light mod? Ok..I'm lost.

Has anyone added aftermarket fog lights to your vehicle (not just replaced the bulbs)?

Thanks in advance

I used the factory buckets too mount them as well.
I modified them a little bith with a dremmel, but they fit in and retained the stock screws, buckets, and harness (once I adapted that to the aftermarket lights).

I'll get some pics tomorrow.

satyr - Thats interesting. Thats exactly what I was thinking since I already have all the wiring intact. What fogs did you use exactly?

But...I was looking at the wiring diagram for that series fog light I linked to above = "Hella Optilux 1180" and it shows a 15amp fuse inline. Our stock fog circuit is a 10amp fuse. It doesn't seem like it would be that easy of a plug and play.

I guess I'm overly cautious...Any other advice?

I would use the Blazer fogs before those Optilux units but that's just me....

If your not looking for just a "projector" type fog light, there are always the far better performing PIAA units that Modern Performance sells. A few here have used those and they fit almost like OEM.

Example is here of FYX193's PIAA set-up For those that want better Fog/Driving Lights...

Those units are nice but...just a little on the pricey side for what I am looking for. I'm just mainly concerned about the compatability if I could just plug and play some brand of fogs into my stock wiring?

I'll research blazer fogs too.

Whats' wrong with Optilux - Aren't they made by Hella? Just curious?

If the wattage is different than what our stock wattage is, then that is when you need to consider a relay harness. If its the same or less wattage, you'll be fine.
