Brightstar HID Conversion Kits - starting at $359! -
Hi Guys,
We're a brand new sponsor here on the forum, and are introducing our Brightstar HID Conversion kits at a great price. You can check out the details at our dedicated thread here
Oh I'm not comparing. Generic bulbs are not necessarily bad; I have generics in my 9007's and brand names in my 9006's. The generics are still going strong and are still working great. I just like to know exactly what you get, in this case if the bulbs are made in house, generic asian, or rebased name brand. Heck if they use rebased Phillips ultinons (some kits do) then the price would really be a deal.
On that site they mention a hid flashlight, now that’s something I'd like!
joeykunz,
Actually the bulbs are not generic, but manufactured by Brightstar as well - in addition to all of the other components of the kit. All components of the kit is also warrantied for one year.
Oh yeah, our HID Flashlight is in its final stages, so i'll be sure to let everyone know once this is available.
Just for clarification, please don't take this as anything against another comapny, but these systems are actually not legal to use unless you change the whole assembly and have it designed for HID lighting. These products have been banned in the US because a direct replacement will not work correctly. I understand everyone wants HID lighting but at what cost. You can not just use a 9007 based HID as a replacement for a 9007 halogen bulb. First of all it is illegal to remove the high beam feature, and secondly the beam pattern has great potential of being illegal. There are many aspects to lighting, lumens (output), beam pattern, color... HID can have too many lumens in the wrong spots while driving causing increased glare to other drivers. Just trying to use this forum as educational.
Thank you for your post, and actually you bring up an excellent topic. In selling this product, we are aware of the problems associated with HID retrofits, lumen ratings, focal points, glare, etc. We notify each customer who inquires or purchases a set of HID's of these issues; it is ultimately up to the customer to decide whether or not he/she will install this equipment in their car. We also do recommend that each customer attempt to re-align their headlights lower to prevent excessive glare from being given off. Also in this respect, we refrain from selling these kits to SUV and truck owners - it is just way too much light at that height level.
Alike every other part being sold for aftermarket vehicles, ie: upgraded turbos, hi-flow catalytic converters, headers, exhausts, chipped ECU's - all the way to streetglow lights, all are deemed for "off-road use only" or "show use." We all know that these do not comply with NHTSA, DOT, or CARB regulations, however consumers still choose, and will continue to use this equipment for daily driving.
In addition, I am and have always been a great fan of Sylvania Silverstar lights - they are indeed the brightest and best looking halogen bulb out on the market.
Anyhow, thank you for bringing this up - it was bound to arise someday. If you have any questions feel free to PM or email us.
Headlights need to be designed for the light they are using. If your headlight is designed for halogen it needs to use it or the optics will not work correctly. If you try to put an incorrect product in you risk having too much light above the horizon (light in line of vision of oncoming traffic), as well as light in incorrect spots on the road. Basically the light does not perfom well and could be (and most likely is) illegal.
