I was waiting for the polystyrene to come in. It was waiting for me yesterday when I got home from work. So...I got right to it:

As you can see...there definitely was a learning curb. I was used to keeping the acrylic in for 7-8 minutes before it would be ready. This stuff was ready in like 2.5 minutes.

Props to wiggyx for recommending this material. It's very easy to work with...trimming the sheet to size and drilling holes was cake. Later on today I'm going make a few more forms with the projector and gatling gun on.

I picked up a 40x72x.060" sheet of it from USPlastic for like $20 +shipping.

Looks like they changed the site up a bit since earlier this week: Plastic Tanks, Plastic Buckets, Plastic Bottles, Labware, Plastic Tubing, PVC Pipe, Plastic Sheet - United States Plastic Corporation ®. It was under sheets and polystyrene.

Dude...I was just on their site and couldn't find the product that I purchased on Monday. However, if you put in item #43334 and what ever quantity you want in the lower left area of their page under "Express Order Form"...you can get it that way.

The epic failure I had was at 300 degrees for 7 minutes. The one that worked out was at 275 degrees for like 2.5 minutes.

u think it'll form with a shroud better so it will eliminate the bondo step?

I'm going to try it out this afternoon with two motivations. 1) To see if it forms better than the acrylic did (i.e., forms to more details of the shroud). 2) So I know what to cut out so the actual gatling guns will slide in.

I think it'll form better. This is what a local plastic shop recommended for vac forming. He said it forms better & is what they use for industrial stuff.

I'll be building my Vac Former this week sometime & start playing as well.

FYI- Lowes has a 14 gal 5.5hp Vac on sale Fathers Day 1/2 off for only $39.99 (normally $80)

Well...the form was looking beautiful...until this hole popped:

End result:

It was forming to a lot more of the details until that one section tore. I'm going to make some kind of circular stand so the material doesn't get sucked back in that area like it did.

I'm happy to see that the styrene is working for you You night need to go with a slightly thicker sheet since you're asking it to draw so deep.
