Default ATTN: People with broken Morette lenses

I have finally sourced both the Hella H4 lense AND the Valeo H1 lense. Anyone needing info on how to get these just PM me and i will let you know where to go and what to do. I will also post some step by step pics on how to modify replacement lenses so they will fit.

Just so the moderators know I am not selling the lenses, I am just imforming the people who have Morettes with broken lenses.

Also maybe someone can sticky this so people can find out the info without searching through pages of topics on the Morettes.

Pics will be posted later today.

Do your Valeo lenses look like this?

Well I have finally found a fix. You just need to get factory fog lights for a 99-01 Ford Explorer. The lights come with the plastic factory Ford bracket which will get tossed. I will now post some step by step pics on how to fix the broken lenses.

First take your broken lense and pry on the tab right above my thumb in the pic below. There is another tab on the opposite side that you will need to pry on too.

While prying on the tabs pull the rear lense section and the front section apart like below.

Once you pry it open this is what you will end up with.

Here is a shot once the lense and housing are seperated.

Here is what the Ford fog light looks like. Ignore the pitting of the lense since it if a used lense from a friends Explorer.

Follow the same steps as before to open up the Ford lense.

Here is a compared shot of the interior Ford lense and the interior Morette lense. Morette on the left and Ford on the right. The ford lense uses a glare cap over the bulb in the housing.

Here is a shot of the glass section of the lenses. Morette left and Ford right again. The 4 tabs on the Ford lense is what will need to get grinded off.

Here is a rear shot of the glass lense. Morette left and Ford right.

Here is a shot of the grinded area of the Morette lense. Morette has done this on all 4 corneres to make the Valeo lense in the housing.

Now here is a shot of the Ford lense without the tabs grinded off. These are the tabs that you will have to grind off.

It is up to you is you wish to use the Morette rear housing without the glare cap or use the Ford rear housing with the glare cap.

Anyone have any tricks for better light out of the Hella's?

The closest i could find for the Hella H4 lense is the following.

P/N - 1A3 996 162-141

The only thing is that the Hella H4 lense used in the Morettes only has 3 mounting points originally and not 4 points like this one. The measurements seem to be right though.

To make these ones fit you will have to grind off the top two tabs.

I can not guarantee this lense will work though until i try it myself.

I dont think so. The round fog lights were only used for 99-01 models though. Previous years, even though same body style, had square fog lights.

You can find these replacement lights all over ebay though. The Hella ones you should be able to get them from anyone who sells Hella.

04ebluenb and I have scoured the internet for these damn lights and he just lucked out on the Ford ones. I didn't believe him til he posted these pictures. *LOL* Either way thats a great find and solves a big part of the problem. Next is finding a place to get the Hella's.

Yeah like i said i knew a friend of mine had similar looking factory fog lights in his Explorer but never even thought of it after i ended up with a broken lense lol

I think those Hella ones i posted a pic of will work but i will have to order one in first just to check. The lense will cost me about $85CDN each but will be well worth it if they work and then i will order the second one i need.

Mid June my funds should allow for me to order a lense and i will let you guys know then, unless someone beats me to it.

If everything does end up working might be time to glue something on the front to protect the them. These lenses are like clear gold. Lol
