WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. (KABC) -- A man in Woodland Hills accidently blew off his own finger and injured his son on Wednesday night as he was apparently trying to teach his son about the dangers of gunpowder.
Authorities responded to reports of a possible shooting in the 22900 block of Calvert Street just before 10:45 p.m. Police and firefighters arrived to find a window blown out.
Police said the man put gunpowder into a fake weapon, which then blew up. His son suffered minor face injuries and may have suffered a loss of hearing. Both he and his father were taken to a local hospital.
The bomb squad was called out to search the home, but nothing else was found.
