Hey guys, I was in the midst of a conversation with a guy earlier this afternoon who was a special ops guy in Afganistan and we got into a discussion about the politics of Iraq and Afganistan. I'm really just curious as to how the opinions of the few that have been there differ from the views of us civilian folk. I realize it's more complicated than the poll options but I would like to gather a brief synapsis of the situation. Thanks for your vote.
**That last one should say military.
In addition, and without sounding too douchy I would like to send out a thanks to those serving.

sap, im actually out here in iraq now... northwest corner...
I dont even really think about it to tell you the truth... i got a job to do..
and i cant really speak for anyone else in the military... someone will chime in im sure.
BUT now this shit is pissing me off. I'm up for orders in 1 year and now with this cluster fuk of an operation, if I want to "Stay Navy" and not get booted I HAVE to do a tour in Iraq...
The military is so stretched that they've made it so if you're heading back to a ship like Sailors do (who would have thunk it) you must first do a IA tour. If you were to look at our open job listings you would swear there weren't any ships out there anymore. What was once voluntary is now mandatory.
Military: I have no opinion..I just do what they tell me to do.
yeah no kidding right. the OP isnt military so he doesnt get it

It can get old being reassigned over and over to a place you don't want to be at.
I made a bad mistake getting out of the Army after serving 5 of 8 years in the Far East.
Not voting.......Whatever they tell me to do I do....................Many of us have opinions but say nothing in fear of facing some sort on non-judicial punishent......
Oh, and chances are this "Special ops" dude you talked to is just a faker. Most of the time people who've been, and done stuff like that don't talk about it to just anyone.
I've had the same attitude from day one, 8 years later, Early Promote Evals, NAM's, JSOQ, JSOY's... etc etc.. and I am still the same way.
I'm no puppet. I don't blindly follow.
Like when the detailer told me while I was on deployment that if I wanted to "Stay Navy" I had no other choice but Japan, after he already promised me a teaching job IN San Diego ( I wanted somewhere on the west coast) if I extended to go on the deployment....
