hey guys heres my scenario, dell inspiron e1705...wont charge.
i do alot of tuning with this laptop so its always being tossed around on car seats etc.. lately before its death the power cord began to come undone and i could hear it sizzling as the wires frayed.i took the connector apart and fixed the connector while i was waiting for the new ones i ordered to come in.that didnt work so i figured maybe i burnt out the main part so when the new charger came in it is still the same condition.it wont power up or charge.
now my question is what are the possibilities? how hard is the unit itself to take apart? anything to watch out for?
thanks for any info in advance
jay

had an old averatec do this too me a few years ago. took the laptop apart and the connector on the mobo (usually square shielding, four ground prongs surrounding a central prong) had popped loose and was making intermittent contact, blackened the board quite a bit but it wasn't too tough to solder a new power jack on there (found a jack at radio shack). from what i know Dell's aren't too difficult to disassemble, but it all varies quite a bit from notebook to notebook (my 1520 is very easy). go to Legit Reviews - Upgrading The Dell e1705 Notebook Graphics Card - Sometimes You Need More Power - that is a tutorial for upgrading a graphics card in your model, but it has a disassembly tutorial included with pictures, so it should give you a basic idea of what you're in for and what you're looking for.
try to do this yourself if you can, computer shops charge an arm and leg for these kinds of repairs, and they're fairly common too. hope it helps.
thanks for the replies guys, im gonna venture in there tomorrow and see what i find.hopefully this one wont make it to the dead pile of laptops i have lol.they all share one thing in common..they all have a dell emblem.i think i see a trend
