Dish Network tried to charge me a $360 cancellation fee...
Long story short, I decided to try out dish. Installer got here, hooked up everything, and the picture quality was grainy and blurry on all tv's and directv's PQ was 1000x better. I told the installer that there is no way in hell I was going to settle for that PQ, so I told him I didn't want it. The only thing I signed was a paper saying I declined continuing the service.
A week later I get a call from my bank telling me that dish tried 3 times in one day to charge my card $360, but the bank put it on hold because they wanted to make sure it was a valid charge (I love my bank). I told them it was not a valid charge.
Three days after that I get an actual bill in the mail telling me I owe $360 for a cancellation fee and it's due by the 26th (yesterday). I call dish network and tell them the situation, so they tell me I will have to call the executive office in Denver, Co. So I do, and after being on hold for literally 30 minutes, I finally get to talk to Laura. I explain to her what's going on (apparently she's a very high up person with this company) and she tells me she will have to get a copy of the contract which will take two days. She said she would call me in two days.
Two days later and she never called me back. A week later and still no call back. I decide to call again, and the executive office transferred me to her, and I get a voicemail. I leave a message telling her I'm wondering what's going on with the contract and tell her to call me back.

You always have atleast 15 days after install to cancel, it varies state to state, it's 30 days here in TX. You can look up "buyer's right to cancel". to find out specific state's laws. If they try to fuck you over again, sue the bastards.
I fucking hate automatic withdraws and anyone having access to my account. Kudos to your bank. Many years ago I had a company do an auto withdraw resulting in me bouncing 6 checks to the tune of $300 in fees. The bank let 4 of them go after I covered them, but still it was an fuckup situation. My wife pays the bills and we still do some auto withdraws, but the major ones are predeposit and set up for a set amount to the credit union where we bank.
