Just watched the national news on ABC and NBC at 6:30 pm EDT, Tampa looks spared from the storm with some light rain and wind as it made landfall further south than expected and now it is heading northeast to Orlando.
$15 billion in losses feared
Charley was expected to be the worst storm in the Tampa area since a 1921 hurricane.
Bush said it could cause more than $15 billion in losses on its predicted track. Hurricane Andrew, the costliest hurricane to hit the United States, caused about $25 billion in damage when it passed through the Miami area in August 1992.
Luckly we didnt get anything here on the southeast side, but some wind. The wind in the fourth pic looks like it would rip up the trees in my front yard
Damage also being reported in Englewood, Sebring, and several tornadoes being reported attm.

Report: Captiva Island Completely Underwater
...tried posting this once and the server failed. The AP is reporting that all of that island is underwater. Storm surge is higher than 15 ft. These are unconfirmed reports but the AP is passing this along at this hour.

Weather forecasters are puzzled why Charley went northeast to Fort Myers as opposed to north to Tampa and also the storm intensified more than expected jumping from a category 2 to 4 in 90 minutes before landfall...
