Default Hernando Beach

Anyone on here familiar with this area? We're thinking about buying a home in the area, and are curious since homes there seem to be rather affordable. I'm just wondering if the area is nice or not.

i live right near there in spring hill. Try to do some fishing out there even though its not great ( more of a convience thing), but there is some good areas just north. Its overall pretty nice, not to many shabby areas. Just have to be careful of storm surge if a hurricane comes through there. They are planning on dredging out alot of the canals starting this summer. More than likely causing a boom of real estate out there, so now would be a good time to buy so i have heard. if you have any more questions or anything feel free to ask. shaun

We've got a condo on the beach in Venice but are thinking of selling it and getting a house when my transfer goes through. A condo is just too small to live in full-time, plus there's no storage space. I wanted to stay down in the Venice area, but we found some good prices on homes up in Hernando Beach so we are giving it some thought. This is the one we're thinking about right now:

http://realtor.com/Prop/1045017527

Anyways, I already know about the taxes and the hurricane insurance since we've been getting hit on both with our condo. Our taxes are actually higher right now since we are not permanent residents.

As for Spring Hill, we haven't looked much into that yet. We've been mainly looking at places right on the Gulf, or within a block or two. We looked on the ocean side the last time we were down there, but just didn't like it as much as the Gulf side.

So for now, we're just trying to get info on the area before we get a chance to go down there again and check things out.

thats a real nice home. Gulf access homes in hernando beach are really nice. I know you would probly do these, but make sure you would get an inspection on that home. The only reason i would stress that is since the home was built in the 80's there was a bad no name storm that hit early 90's that caused alot alot alot of damage. More than likeley the home was fine and/or fixed just firgued i would give you the heads up. If you would like i wouldnt mind picking you up a few real estate magazines so you could get a better variety of homes. I know they post alot on the net, but there are alot of small real estate companies out in the hernando beach that probly are not on the net. just let me know if i could help you at all. us srt'ers must stick together. lol

Yeah we'll definitely get an inspection done before making a final decision on any place. That would be great if you could pick up a few of the local magazines. I'll pm you my address.

That's what got our attention with HB. You can't find a house anywhere near the water for that price anywhere else. Bradenton used to be affordable, but their property value has really gone up over the last few years. I did find a really nice place in Englewood. It was 5,000+ sq ft and they were asking about $700k, but it was about 15 minutes from the water. I'd love to stick with Venice because the area is so nice, but Sarasota County taxes are pretty bad.

Actually, that particular place has been on the market for a while. It was originally $570k, but they knocked $40k off recently. I imagine they would be willing to go lower than the current asking price. I bet it could be had for under $500k.

The way houses are selling now I'm sure you can get it for less than 500k Taxes and ins. has knocked the wind out of alot of buyers making it harder to buy homes even here in Hernando where people from Tampa and other counties would come to get better deals on new homes. The prices on the homes are still better than in the southern couties but the taxes/ins. has cought up so now it's not as great of a deal anymore when you have to drive 45min+ to and from work every day
