well first off i'm on my second tranny, first one i broke 4th gear, don't ask me how, so when i replace the tranny i installed a clutch master stg 4 6 puck clutch, figured while i was in there get that out the way, cost me 600 dollars, so with the cost of new tranny and clutch and labor came out to about 2600 dollars, So about 2 months go by and my third gear started grinding, i'm like wtf? grant it was a use tranny, but only had 7000 miles on it, but the idiots only gave me a 30 day warranty, Fu*king bastards, now im so heated. so yesterday i go to the shop to get my axle replace that needed changing but just to busy to fix it, so i finally had time and got it fix yesterday along with my fuel leak, which was leaking from my return line off the fuel pressure regulator, so im like cool i can finally boost a lil again. so im going down university floored it in 2nd and shift to third and nothing didn't grind or anything. so i proceeded to do the same thing, and sure nuff the same thing happend again. so my third gear was finally gone, no biggie cause i knew this was gonna eventually happen. damn me, so i got home and im thinking well i really don;t need third so i;ll just drive around like that till i get the other tranny. well this morning i work up and i was driving and i'm cruising in 4th and i go to shift into 5 and it won't go, ok so i slowed down and try to shift into 2nd and it would go, so i put it in nuetral and let off the clutch and and its still in 4 gear (wtf is up with that) i put it in third and its still in the same gear(4th), this is to weird, so i was stuck driving around for a bit with only 4 gear. Trust me it wasn't fun, i know i burnt my clutch a lil bit, hope not to bad.
Well i talked to the guy earlier and he's gonna have the tranny out in a couple day's good and bad in a way. so i'll be out of a car for a couple days, ohhh well shit happends, thats not gonna stop me from racing tho, i always come back stronger, thanks for reading, damn neons lol

here's is it how it started going out, at first it would grind a lil going into third, then at times when i shift to third it would just slip right back out, i would have to shift at like 5500rpm then i would stay in, then time past and it grinded into 3rd every time, and 90% of the time it would slip out of 3rd, then just recently it just went out, no third at all, no i only have 4th gear,
Um... Did you even look at the slave cylinder? Lots of people have been having problems related to that. That would cause a lot of the symtoms you've described. I'm going to think that it might be too late to fix it though if that's what it was. Sounds like the transmission has gotten screwed again.
Kmoy my tranny did the same thing. When you take the shifter cover off, you'll see why thats happening. The shifter fork rests between one piece of metal that is slotted in the middle, allowing the fork to push on both sides of the piece. the same piece that the fork pushes on to get it into 3rd gear, is the same piece that the fork pushes on to remove it from 4th gear. So once your in 4th, forget about it, its not coming out.
Mine did the same thing. So what I did was removed the shifter cover, used a pair of pliers to take it out of 4th. Then DON'T put it back into 4th. You can drive it with 1st, 2nd, 5th, and reverse. The dealership in FL wouldnt warranty it, so I drove it up to NY without using 3rd and 4th, and the dealership where I bought the car did the work for me.
Take it easy on the next tranny you get. This problem is a result from shifting to hard during the 2-3 shift. There is no positive stops on this shifter, so whats stopping the shifter from moving more forward or back during shifts is the actual transmission. Look at the Hurst shifter for the PT cruiser. Now thats what we need!!

I'm bored today. Here ya go.
This is what you'll see when you remove the shifter cover. There are 3 rails. the 1-2, 3-4, 5-R. Two are copper, and I'm not sure what the other one is (dark colored). The middle one is the 3-4 rail. You can see the gaps all aligned in this pic. This would mean the car is in neutral. When you move your shifter left or right, you move the fork into position either into the 1-2 piece, or 5-R. Then when you move the shifter forward or back, you slide the rail so that the gears connect. Looking at this pic the rails would slide either up or down. I am showing you the piece that most likely broken in your car Kmoy.
Now the reason why your car is stuck in 4th is because that middle rail is moved "up" as shown in the pic. Since the piece I have circled is no longer there, the shifter fork has nothing to push on to take the car out of forth. Like I said earlier, you can take the shifter cover off, take a pair of plies and slide that rail into the neutral position so you can use the other gears. Just remember you can't put it into 3rd, and you can't take it out of 4th. So your only usable gears will be 1,2,5,R. Good luck with it.
Jeff
This is a pic of SRTGURL's tranny. I beleive this is the piece that is broken off in your car. The piece isn't indestructable, and over time it gets chipped, like you see here in the pic. Yours more than likely just sheered off instead of chipping away piece by piece.
