Default Challenged.....

My friend challenged me to a race (at the Immokelee track) with me in my SRT-4 vs. his 2004 Hyundai Sonata v6.

He does not have any engine mods or anything and has a sound system with huge mods on the trunk.

My SRT-4 has Stage 1.

To tell you the truth i started driving manual about 6 months ago. And my major fear is launching hard to race because I dont want to stall, and also i dont know how. So does anyone know how to launch hard, and when i asked him why he was so confident he said "i have a v6 u have a 4 cylinder engine...

What do you think? think i can take him? any pointers to have a good launch? and do you think i can beat him? he has from 170-180whp.

ha, just launch normally like you would from a stoplight and as soon as you get rolling in first just hammer on it. he will be gone in no time at all

You could start off in second gear and still wooooooop the ever living shit out of him. Yeah it's a four cylinder...a big four cylinder that happens to be turbo charged. I would race your buddy for pink slips, then ghost ride his Sonata off a freakin cliff.

Honestly, if your on a track, you're going to grip and go alot better then if you are on the street. Gt the car going like your driving normal...then stomp on it..You will be so far ahead of that piece shit Sonata that you could stop at Burger King, Eat a meal, and cross the finish line befoe he even makes in an 1/8 mile.

Sounds like your not ready to race anyone yet.
Heres a quote from an online review "The Sonata's V6 engine cranks out 235 hp and 227 lb-ft of torque with 24 valves operated with continuously variable valve timing, which should result in a spirited ride. Perhaps a 3458 curb weight works against the engine, but the V6 feels like it is working hard to move the Sonata down the road" It goes 0-60 in 7.5 sec. with a 1/4 mile of 15.5 at 92. mph from what Ive found. So yes, the srt can beat it but Im not sure you could at this point. Get some practice first.

F' practice, the only way your loosing that race is if you stall on the line and the likelihood of that happening if you launch like you would at a stoplight is minimal. Just remember he has to make up near 1.5 seconds just to tie.

add .5 to 1 second to those times and those are most likely real world numbers

His is an auto and that's the NEW sonata, they changed a lot from 04 and on. Search for the 04 Sonata v6, a lot less power.

I am 100% sure he has nothing special under the hood, all stock. But i don't think he knows i bought my srt with stage 1 installed.

Sounds like the kid in a 7th gen celica gt (yea not even an -s) that pulled up at the light tonight and proceded to tell me that he's driven cars faster than mine. AssClown "Well your not now"...light turns green.....etc. etc. etc.

I guess he doesn't know the power of the SRT-4 or think that his v6 can win. When i asked him how much hp he had, he said his engine was 215whp stock so i think he thinks he is faster than he actually is.
