Default Question about Emissions...

So I am moving from Florida, a place with no emmissions to Riverside county not sure on exact city yet.... Is there a website I can go to to check out the emission laws and test that they do... Right now I am positive my car will fail will fail with flying colors....

No interior 2 front seats is all, welded in cage, Scroth DOT legal harnesses, no airbags, BC coils dumped, 3" dump exhaust no cat, im sure there is more, but these are the only reasons why i think I will fail, any insight is helpful thank you.

Why you moving to Cali from Florida. If I was you I'll stay. I came from Miami, FL to Long Beach,CA OMG I had to sell the car because for me to get the car to pass smog I had to spend too much cash. Advice, try to keep your FL tags as longes possible so cops can't f#$K with you. Good Luck!

no, seats part was sarcasm...anything that doesn't look stock, or doesn't have a CARB E.O. sticker on it can fail you...

do they randomize the test dates, or do you set dates to go and get it done?

no not for registration of the vehicle smog tests...they will mail you a notice..BUT..if the CHP or local PoPo get you, they can send You to the state referee...basically if that happens, you have to be ALL stock again. They inspect everything at a facilitiy, then smog the car to make sure it's all legal. THey are nazi's.

Oh, and btw, the no cat thing....You fail smog...big time.

You don't HAVE to have the stock exhaust on for the smog...just the cat. I've always had aftermarket exhaust when i smog...no problems. It also depends where you go.

Although I live in SoCal, I just bought an SRT-4 from a guy in Utah and brought it back to California. Here is the scoop on what I went through (long but worth it).

My car is a 2004 with basically no interior, roll bar, non-stock steering wheel, Stage 2 w/Toys, larger throttle body, Perrin BOV, coilovers, non-stock exhaust, etc.

When bringing a car into the state, it has to be 1st be emissions tested. This includes a visual inspection and an actual smog test.

In regards to the visual inspection, they look under the hood and under the car. Under the hood, everything needs to look stock (not actually be stock since they really don't know the difference) or have a CARB sticker on it. A few of the emissions stations refused my car since they did not know if some of the parts were stock or not....didn't fail me, just wouldn't test me. I finally found one that would do the test and they passed me on the visual inspection.

Once they are through with the visual inspection, they will hook the car up to the emission testing machine. This will first test to see if the car is throwing any codes (if you have stage 2 w/toys or stage 3, you will need a code scrubber or to clear the automatic transmission codes before going in for the test).

The car needs to idle relatively smoothly and then pass an emissions test. Your car will need a good cat to pass the test. I actually had to have a new one put on since the aftermarket one that was on the car when I bought it didn't seem to work (failed the first time). For the second time, I also used some stuff called Guaranteed to Pass which you can buy at any auto parts store and just pour in the tank (follow directions). At this point in time, my car finally passed and they gave me a certificate that I took to the DMV.

At the DMV, they do a visual inspection of the car but it is more to verify the VIN numbers than anything else. He did fault me for no emissions sticker under my hood (I have a carbon fiber hood) but still let me register the car.

It was a pain but I finally got it registered. The referree everyone is referring to is a different deal altogether. You can get sent to the referee by a police officer (at anytime) and the referree will go over your car with a fine tooth comb. Passing a referree is much tougher, from what I have heard.

Hope this helps.
