I've been having small problems with the car for a while now. If I shift into neutral and take my foot off the gas, the engine will rev to 1200-1500rpm by itself, as if I gently applied pressure to the gas while in neutral. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the next problem but I might as well throw it out there.
I turned my car on yesterday and I got a CEL light P-0442 which is a small leak in the EVAP system. My car knowledge is basic at best and I was told to check for a small tear or rip in vacuum lines, but since the code says it's a small leak, the rip can be as small as .020 of an inch. I searched all the threads with this code and it's not the gas cap being loose. Are there any signs I should be looking for around the area where to rip would be? How is this going to affect my drivability since I drive 20-30 miles a day?
That being said I was wondering if a local might be able to check this out for me and I wouldn't mind paying if someone could permanently fix this problem.

Do the revs fall to 1500 and stay there or do they climb to 1500 and stay there?
Falling and hanging is generally the TPS wiring starting to go out. Climbing revs is generally a vacuum leak. To check for vacuum leaks first you need to inspect the obvious places like the brake booster line, intake manifold gasket and around the throttle plate. You can spray carb cleaner around these areas while the car is idling and listen for change. If it revs more than you found yourself a leak. To check for TPS you can wiggle the TPS harness and listen for change.

This is unrelated to your hanging revs problem. More often than not a small leak code is pressure getting past the gas cap. Replace it and see if that clears your CEL. If that doesn't work than you need to check the lines coming off the EVAP canister. It is located right behind the passenger rear wheel.

Say I'm going 30mph and approaching a stop. Clutch in and rpm falls to 1k. Shift into neutral and release the clutch, without my foot on any pedal and car cruising in neutral the rpm will climb slowly to 1500~rpm. Clutch in again and it will go back to 1k.
two things for the hanging idle/revs:
1) tps gone bad
2) vacuum leak in the TB area. usually Boost leaks (meaning before throttle body plate) do not affect your idle. so that means the line on your TB area is loose, came off, or has a tiny tear.
the p0442...
check your evap canister in the back... and follow it up all the way to the front. it could be a bad NVLD solenoid in your evap cannister. the line runs all the way up to the back of the firewall right next to the coolant resevoir. its a hard black line.
most cases, its a leaking line coming to/from the black cannister in the back rear right next to your gas tank, or a bad NVLD solenoid (like $30). most cases, its Not a bad gas cap as people suggest.
the vac leak or tps problem? if its a tps problem, if the wires continue to lose a solid connection (if it IS the tps), the hanging revs will continue to worse.
if its a vac leak at the TB, if it continues to get larger, itll do the same.
the evap thing, thats nothin to really worry about.
get a bov, and a wga...preferably a ptp or agp.
come by my place after, ill fix your car up, remove all the unnecessary vac lines (which is all but 2 pretty much), and fix any leaks.
