I was just wondering if any of the monterey guys can tell me about Monterey. I am on westpac AND I am putting up for order, so i am putting in for orders to Monterey.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me what living there is like. Housing costs, local places. and just an idea of what you think. My orders are going to be for only 3 years.
Thanks again
oh yeah how many SRT guys are out there?
BTW i am currently stationed in san diego, if you wanted to try to make a price comparison to some places
I've been there many many times. It's VERY VERY expensive. Affordable housing is almost non existant. Most homes there are 2nd homes or retired folks. Very very coolspot though. You won't have any shortage of things to do.
yes it is norcal. I am military so i have a guarenteed job and my girl is a manager at macy's. its should not be hard for her to transfer there.
from what i have been looking. its cheaper than san diego.
Just fyi. here are my pro's cons
San diego
pros:
i already live there
friends here
cons
$$$
$$$
$$$
too far south
been here for over 5 years and afraid i may end up stuck here paying outrageous prices
the job i would have would suck (being a teacher)
ok now for monterey
pro's:
the job would be awesome, network administrator for a post graduate college
mid cali (i have family north and south, easier to be with family)
cheaper than SD
close to laguna seca
slower pace than san diego
something new
cons
i have to move
somewhat spendy
moving to a place i have never been to
lots of old people haha

it is Very close to laguna seca.
carmel-by-the-sea is probably the best beach around monterey. and a great shopping center for you to take your gf.
its definately a fun place. but it is more of a town you go to check out 3-4x a yr. i wouldnt neccessarily want to live there, as the variety of things to do aside from being ocean/beach vibe specific, is limited.
its about a solid 2hr drive from me. if you move out there, ill be glad to drive half way and meet up w/ you in the south bay.
ok if they have a mall and a movie theater then my giril will be happy. we are pretty simple people. freinds, family, shopping, movies, cars, and our dogs are pretty much our lives.
does the beaches allow dogs out there?
I have family in sacromento and san jose, she has family in fresno, i have friends in reno, we are pretty connected out there already. but if i do get the orders i will def hook up with some of the SRT guys. just trying to get an idea of what its like out there since i can't go visit before i request the move

sounds like you're good to go then.
some beaches DO allow. carmel-by-the-sea does i believe. that, or noone gave a fuck and took their dogs anyways. lol
there are ALOT of sanjose/fremont/union city guys. not so much monterey. ive never encountered any srts when i went there all those times. and noone on the norcal forums is from there.
summer time + monterey = perfect weather paradise. should be a fun experience.
I live in Monterey and we are considered Central Cal. Im 23yrs old and I have lived most of my life. It is very expensive to live here but it is worth it. I just moved back from college (sacramento) I couldnt wait to be back here. There is little to no crime at all. There are only a hand full of SRT's here though, but the weather is perfect.
