Im trying to make this weekly. I've always wanted to run weekly like others do, so I adjusted my schdule and now I have at least every Wed off.
Myself and Wes (Mr SRT) will be visiting LACR again to avenge are "high 60 foot times"
If anybody would like to join us, let me know in this thread or by PM.
I will be leaving the San Fernando Valley floor around 3:30-4pm to avoid traffic. Wes doesn't get off work from Westoaks D/C until 5pm, so he might not be there until 7pm at the earliest, but he was still able to amass over 15 passes in that time period.
Well I left the Valley floor around 3pm as I was on the phone with Direct TV at the last minute. I knew I should have just came up earlier in the day!
Anyway, I got up to M&H and John was insightful and helpful. If you see this John, thanks again!
I made the trek back to LACR, funny but it was farther away then I first thought, to the tune of 112 miles from Bakersfield. I thought by cutting across the 138 would shorten the distance but I guess it doesn't and I understand WHY you don't see anybody from the Bakersfield area at LACR...
On the way back Wes called me tellin me it was raining in Little Rock. I called the message center and they had left a message at 4:30 saying it would be clear to race.
Boy my Navi system is good, it said I would be there around 9:05 and I was there at 8:57pm.
I called Wes to see if he had any cash as I forgot to stop by an ATM. He did and I told him to come to the gate.
I let Wes have first shot at the slicks, he'll have his own set pretty soon.
He's never been on slicks befoe (neither have I).
I told him what John told me, that was leave them at 18psi to get a feel for them and drive around the water box. What does Wes do? Drive right into the box and does a burnout! lol
Up to this point he has been running about what he had been running last week, mid 14's
Well the first pass knocked off over 4 tenths and he ran 14.05@100+
It wasn't until the 3rd pass on slicks that he got into the 13's.
I believe his best pass of the night equals his personal best on street tires - 13.92
That just gives you an IDEA how BAD LACR is on Weds, besides it being cold.
But even with spinning the slicks out of the hole after a burnont (mild) and dropping the pressure to about 14-15psi, I don't think his 60's dropped below 2.0
But he reduced his 60's by 2-3 tenths on average.
I'm glad I used him a the "lab rat"
My car is about 2-3 tenths faster than his is, so I can't wait to try the slicks myself. I believe low 13's are in order, maybe just not an LACR until it gets a bit warmer (at night).
The slicks should be better during the day with more heat in the track.
The forcast calls for high 70's at LACR on Saturday. They are hosting Jr Dragsters as well, but the test and tune lanes will be open.
I think that will be the last Wed I will go until it starts to warm up. The conditions for making power are good, but traction is horrible.
As the slicks break in, they'll get better and 4-5 tenths is nothing to sneeze at. So maybe since I didn't get to use them, I'll give them a go on a Wed, maybe next week.
Open once a month if were lucky, next Street Legals at Fontana April 7th, previous Street Legals in Feb!
LACR -
Weather good for power, too cold for traction on an old surface.
Got there at 9pm with slicks, he still made 5 passes, try that at Fontana...
Open Wed Night, Friday Night and occasionally Saturday Morning/Afternoon (which is the case this weekend)
What's left?
Irwindale -
1/8th mile (half distance) good for practice, not much else
Famoso -
Over 100 miles away, one way; best track conditions short of Pomona when prepped (in this case NHRA Sport Compact Finals every Oct)
Pomona -
See above, former home of NHRA Street Legal Drags
Brotherhood Raceway -
Naval "storage lot"
SNOOPALOOP -
So what praytel would you HAVE us do?
I still have to go up to Stockton to finish up some business up there, I can run at Sac, but I need to haul some things back, so I doubt I'll be taking the car next time.
I don't street race, I didn't buy this car to "quickly merge into traffic on the freeway" Where else are you going to get to play at WOT?
LACR on Wed is a challege of sorts, its cold during the winter and spring, but at least its OPEN. Ask all those on the east coast if they rather sit at home looking outside to snow covered roads or go racing. Even when the track is open there a chance for snow, look at Carcrazy's video, it did DID SNOW!
Even with the cold surface and 40 degree temps, Wes still knocked off 4-5 tenths of a second on BRAND NEW SLICKS. Beating up his car? Uh, scorboard, there several posters with 200-300 passes on their cars, stock axles and clutch. These's cars and MADE TO TAKE THE PUNISHMENT.
You eliminate wheel hop and what risk is there to breaking something???
In some respects LACR is a waste of time and energy, but its cheap (well, Sac on Weds is $15), local (Sac 360 miles, Fontana 72 miles, Famoso 112 miles, LVMS 264 miles), and even when Banning is finally open, I'll drive 90 miles one way at least once a month to run there.
Anywase, soon as it heats up a bit ima head back out to LACR on a FRIDAY when track prep is a little better, then I should be able to run a 13.4 on slicks and Anthony you should be able to run a 13.1
There plenty room for inprovment, my best 60ft was a 2.0 on the slick, chaulk that one up to bad prep as well...
Why run where you don't even know how fast your car REALLY is?
You are going to run high 14s all day up at LACR..greeaaaat ..so you now know your car is good for 14s at 3500 feet. Again.. what's the point? You're just guessing what it would do.."Yeah man.. I did 14.7 at LACR,that's gotta be good for high 13s at fontana"
I'd rather wait for a track where at least I know what the car is capable of...doesn't make sense to beat on your car to do 14s. There's a reason you can't get more than 2 other srts to go to Palmdale to run.

Its not a guess, there educated formulas that tell you.
Wes dropped 4-5 tenths bolt-in on the slicks. He ran 14.5's last week, he was running 14.5's this week, nothing else has changed. The only way to get any sort of traction when the surface is that cold is to use slicks. Now if it wasn't Wes' first time on slicks, his e-brake was tighter I'm sure he could have gotten it down to 1.9 and knocked another tenth off his ET.
There several thing at work here.
First we have to launch at a much reduced RPM on street tires. It takes the engine longer to get into its power band. With a lighter flywheel that would help, but since neither of us have that, we lose time.
Next is the wheel spin we get at WOT in 1st and again on the 1-2 shift.
Clean up all the wheel spin and launch at much higher RPM and your time will drop.
Wes' calulations are correct, my car is constaintly 3-4 tenths faster, as it should be I make more power than he does, I have more mods than he does, no boost leaks.
I ran 3 tenths faster and about 1 mph quicker on my best passes compared to his.
Clean up all my wheel spin and drop my 60fts to 1.9 and I would run mid 13's at LACR, no other changes. Drop it down to 1.8 and it would be low 13's and that is totally POSSIBLE at LACR.
Im going on Saturday, it might happen then. It will for sure happen at the final IDRC race ever at LACR March 31st, day time running and full track prep and more than likely NO WIND.
The altitude correction for boosted cars is excatly HALF of what it is for N/A cars, so about .4936 tenths of a second and about 1.7mph. Go ahead, look its on NHRA's web page.
Running the car at Fontana is an easy 3-4 tenths faster, its been proven several times by other forum members.
Garrett has roughly the same mods as Wes and he ran 13.2@103 on a very warm summer day last year on slicks with slighly better track prep at Fontana.
I know I can run 12's closer to sea level, there about 10-15 cars in the 12 second stock turbo thread in the drag racing forum.
I like to race, the more you race, the better you get. You don't improve sitting at home.
