This gets even better. A mole? Maybe try looking in the mirror and you'll find your mole. Some of you guys really are idiots if you have no idea why law enforcement would show up after posting on a public internet forum. Public, meaning anyone can view what you post. I don't know how much simpler to put this, but there are cops in southern California who have owned SRT-4's. There's a lot of other cops who are just as much into different types of cars and are car guys. Whether personal or in the line of duty, if they see you talking about planning a premeditated crime do you think they'll ignore it? All it takes is one officer to see something and give a heads-up to a buddy they know in another department.
Some people, not necissarily talking about people who have never owned an SRT-4 and like to post on an SRT-4 specific site, apparently have nothing better to do than post on auto forums all over the web and talk about breaking the law and posting videos of them doing so. All that's going to do is increase the chance someone in law enforcement is going to run across it. And you bet they're going to make note of what car you drive, your name, etc. and use it against you when you get caught.
Depending on the agency, a lot of times they're understaffed, underfunded, and don't have time to sit around all night waiting to catch people. But if you meet every week at the same spot, always go racing and do runs in the surrounding areas,
and post about it on the internet to include videos you have to be stupid to think they're not going to notice. It boggles my mind to think some of you are dumfounded why you're getting "hassled". Maybe because you're breaking the law and
asking for law enforcement to catch you.
Sure there's a ton more deaths and injuries from other causes but there are also deaths and injuries from illegal street racing. Want to tell the family of someone you killed that you were just having fun and it shouldn't be illegal? The cops don't have tons of time to devote specifically to stop racing with recent budget cuts but if they
know it is going to happen to include when and where you can bet they'll follow it up. They have to. Imagine if I were to post a thread stating
"hey all, I'm going to go to the bar this Friday and get drunk on whiskey and will be driving home at 2:15 am on Main Street in my red SRT-4." Should I really be surprised if somehow I get pulled over?
A lot of cops are pretty lenient and willing to let some stuff slide but 9 times out of 10 the driver is going to dig their own hole and get what they deserve. Maybe if you didn't post on a public forums and did a friendly pull out in the middle of nowhere you wouldn't have as many problems, but when you go to meets and drive like idiots on surface streets and in parking lots then go out and race on busy public highways against other cars racing three lanes wide at triple digit speeds and then posting videos you're going to get unwanted attention from the law. And even if you aren't doing all of that you can guarantee someone else is if you hang out with that crowd and by being associated with them you might as well be the one doing it.
The type of people who do that and do other stupid and dangerous stuff like passing on the shoulder like my friend has seen is what gets all the other SRT-4 owners including myself a bad reputation. Take it to the track or be smart about how you race. If you're not going to do that then let it be no surprise when you get caught.
And for those who
will eventually get caught, how's it going to look when they make a case that you were committing that premeditated crime? Because the cops are surely and rightfully so going to throw every charge they can against you. Nothing like have multiple misdemeanors on your record. And so help someone gets hurt. Hello felony charges. A lot of people like to think they're some great driver but single-car street racing is kind of contradictory, and no matter how good you are when you race against someone else in an uncontrolled environment stuff happens. After finding yourself sitting in jail for a few days, car impounded for a month, insurance rates skyrocketing, expensive legal costs, and at worst having to live with killing a passenger or someone else you're pretty much screwed. There's been people here who have been busted and maybe they should post up if they think it was worth it.
Some of you make me sick to even be associated with as a "fellow SRT-4 owner" due to us having the same car. I feel no sympathy if you do get busted for half the stuff being bragged about. And if I saw an SRT-4 owner driving dangerously on public roads to include racing and endangering other people
I would be the first one to call the cops, just like I would for any other dangerous driver. I don't want you killing be or my friends and family.
Think before you act and realize your actions may have consequences. If you don't agree with the law and don't want to challenge it and are still going to race illegally then do so smartly. And most of this crap being posted isn't smart.
