Construction on Drag City was supposed to begin three weeks ago. However, Drag City's project coordinator, Tom Searles says that the hold up on the $15 million dollar drag strip has been due to the fact that he is working with several investment groups to help fund a $41 million dollar automotive industrial complex that will be built in close proximity to the drag strip.
Tom Searles adds, "When I first met the Maroccos, I was shown three different concepts: The first was primarily a world class dragstrip with the usual amenities. The second concept included limited ancillary developments as well. The third and final concept included a much larger use of ancillary developments which would make the Drag City facility a Mecca for Southern California racers and fans as well as for the drag racing and hot rodding industry itself for many decades to come". “After many more meetings and discussions we opted for the third and final concept which would put Southern California drag racers back in it's rightful place in the Drag Racing World”! "While we made plans several weeks ago to start construction, I decided to delay the mobilization of construction equipment until I reviewed several last minute proposals made by a few other investor groups". "Ron and Andy were understandably anxious to start around January 15th since that was the schedule that I gave them back in December, but they understand that my delay will have positive effects on the project as a whole". “I should have things finalized by or before March 1st. At the present time, I have my construction crews on standby and they will be able to mobilize within a 24-hour notice. One way or another we will be racing at Drag City sometime this summer as we have planned”.
That would be nice if they ever get around to building it. But who knows! Besides were neon owners, daily drivers will complain on any track condition FWD FTL! Drag racing from a roll FTW! Hahahahahaha
This guy needs to finish his project, if he markets it correctly he could have it running 3-4 days a week a la Terminal Island, which would get a lot of the street racers off the streets. That in itself should give city and county officials the needed drive to help him keep it open and between the dragstrip and carshows / swapmeets (like Pomona and Long Beach) should line his and his investors pockets with lots of $$$$.
It will be built, its understandable about the delay for the complex next to it to bring more income into Banning. I'm sure that was more of a draw to the city members than the actual strip itself.
So once that's been finalized, they'll actually be able to start on the track. The roads and everything else are done already.
It should and I would think WILL be open by Summertime just in time for me not to be around here..lol But yeah it will take street racing off the streets in the Cocella Valley, Riverside and San Bernandino County. Since Cali Dragway is only open about once a month, that's where everybody in that general area will be at and the income will allow the track to run at least 3 times a week.
They will build it and we will come...even 90 miles away I will come.
Banning FTL, i dont see this track being any better then LACR
Lower elevation - 2100 vs 2700
Advantage: Banning
Grand Stands on both sides and track embedded 50ft into the ground - Ideal WIND CONTROL vs Rock Quarry near by, they want their land back, LACR days numbered, wind blows across freshly prepped track, customers complain about lack of prep when conditions are actual cause
Advantage: Banning
LACR days are numbered (see previous paragraph), Quarry wants land back. LACR owners UNSURE if they will build another track, but is likely to happen. If LACR were to close tomorrow, no site has been selected for its replacement, no contractor hired, delays insue vs General Delays to help Banning gain viable income, infastructure already in place on site, just track needs to be built.
This is comical. Yes, the road leading to the track(err airport) is finished but the area where the track will be located is home to a number of gophers.

Well I know that, I have seen pictures, but in generally it outside is pretty much finished, the main part is yet to be built.
