Default 50T .48a/r > 57T .63a/r

Word up...swapped out the 57 trim .63 turbo for the 50 trim .48 turbo this weekend...what a ridiculous change for sure! Spool time in the auto trans dropped by 4-500rpms still working off a shitty ebay bleed for boost controll. Spool time is between 3100-3200 and can be lower I'm sure but I'm happy with where it's at compared to the 57 trim. Not stating the 57 is a bad turbo by any means it's just not a turbo that should be mated to an automatic transmission. We all know how bad the lag in 1st gear is if you saw my car at the track last time (14.0@104+mph with a 2.5 60' time NOT spinning) and this new turbo is much better suited. With the 57 I would brake boost off the line till the car started spinning then let off the brakes and the car would just bog and lose it's momentum. I went for a run on the street this morning doing the same thing and once the car started building boost I let off the brakes and the car just spun through 1st and into 2nd, so atleast I have a reason for my M&H cheaters at the track now! Sucks that I won't be able to hit the track till november but I'll atleast have some dyno numbers by next saturday for it

I'm not sure of your transmission setup, but that's the purpose of a stall coverter; to get you off the line and into boost to cut down your 60ft with an automatic. Are you running the stock stall? Are there aftermarket stall available?

IPT can restall his converter for him.

They also make a much needed shift kit for you among other things you will REALLY need.

He has a built tranny and a stall in that thing. The old turbo with the .63 was just to big It lagged.

Congrats man on getting the install done. If your not busy monday Ill stop by and see it.

Damn jason where you been....the car's had a TCS furnace brazed stall converter and a Transgo shift kit plus a phantom grip LSD and a barrage of all sorts of other shit for like a year now lol.

The stall converter is only 2100 because that's the highest TCS would allow me to go. This is fine though, because I see most of my time from 1800-2400 on the streets so the 2100 will suffice. If it were an all out drag car it would definitely have a 3500-4000 stall in it, but I drive this thing to school and whatnot every single day so that can't happen just yet lol.

Considering the 57-trim TO4E compressor flows less air mass than the 50-trim wheel, it has a greater tendency to surge when installed on an engine with our characteristics and displacement, and with how well match the 50-trim is in general I'd say you've made a nice upgrade. Depending on how high you plan to rev the car and other modifications, you could also keep and use the .63 housing later if you need more top end flow or just open up the .48 housing a little.

I had no surge issues at all because I'm in an automatic transmission. If I'm in 3rd at 2000rpms and floor it the car will just downshift and I don't get surging.

The 57 trim is already sold, that's how I paid for the 50 trim lol. I can definitely say that the car FEELS faster on only 15psi than it did on 19-20psi with the other turbo because as you said blackbird, it seems like it's just a more efficient turbo for my setup. Like I said before, I don't doubt the 57 trim is a good turbo at all considering people have gone deep into the 11s with the 57s at the track so it's no slouch that's for sure...just not matched to my setup that well.
