ok guys, 2008 is here and it is time for the new SoCal rally-x schedule thread!
please check back regularly as I will update this schedule as things change (grassroots racing schedules always seem to change a little) & I will add pics as they become available.
I set out last year to finish 'top 5 or better' in the California Rally Series (CRS) rally 2wd or 'R2' class and ended up 3rd overall at the Laughlin 2 day finals so this locked in 4th for me in the CRS points race for 2007. There were approx. 23 cars in the points running in the CRS R2 class and a pretty amazing stat is that 5 of the top 7 cars for the year (CRS points wise) were Neon/SRT4 vehicles!! we had four SRT4 participate last year & hope that 08' will bring out a few more!
I do need to get those wheels from you Chris.. I have a delivery guy up in your area pretty much Mon-Fri is there any chance of him coming to your place to pick them up or are you only around on the weekend?
and the rally school is time & money well spent if you can dedicate a weekend -
pretty much mon-fri i'm gone from 5 am - 8 pm (yay! for the commute each day to orange county) and i work every other weekend on saturdays. i'm gonna try and move in the next couple weeks and need to get all the stuff i have in the garage gone when i leave. let me know if you can meet up one of these weekends.
i really want to go to the rally school, but right now money is scarce.
you going to the banquet? if money wasn't an issue, i would go, but yeah. if you go to the banquet, i am not that far at all from the double tree in ontario where its gonna be.
I should be going to the one on April 5th. My buddy with a SVT Focus will bring his and I'll be in my stock srt. How many other srts do you think will show up there?
& we should have my SRT4 there and hopefully at least one or two others, there are always a few 1Gen Neons and usually a coupe of Foci.. the road into Johnson Vally is kinda rough (way rougher then the course fo' sure) so just take it easy once you hit the dirt road
woot!! sorry for the lack of updates but my work has switched internet providers and I am currently blocked from the SRTforums (& I have not yet convinced the IT people to set my PC free, ok... block the porn but not SRTforums plz)
anyway, after a third place at Johnson Valley Feb 2nd (coulda been second place but I took out a small row of cones on one of my final runs ) & my first ever 1st place finish last weekend (FEb 10th) at Ridgecrest, CA.. I am currently in 1st place overall for California Rally Series rally-x points in the R2 (rally 2WD) class - Ridgecrest is usually a fast course with lots of high speed sweepers and long straights which gives the SRT time to spool up and find traction!! lots of fun and I not only took first place but also fastest run of the day for a 2WD car... it was a good day!!!
the DCH Motorsports SRT4 kickin' up a little gravel!
here is a quote from the home page at RallyXportal.com:
Neons dominate 2WD at Ridgecrest
Taking the top three positions in Rally 2WD, Jack Szanto (SRT-4), Kris Marciniak (Neon ACR) and Mike Malsed (Neon ACR) fought hard all day long, rarely separated by more than a second per run! The lead swapped between Kris and Jack with Mike sitting just behind waiting for an opportunity. That opportunity nearly came in the fourth run when Mike laid down a 98 second run, fastest 2WD run up to that point. Unfortunately for him, Jack laid down a 97 second run to clinch first, Kris sneaking in ahead of Mike for second. Quite a change from the past two years when Mark Anton so utterly dominated the class.
& this weekend is Glen Helen 1 (see first page for the link) at Devore, CA - hope to see some Neon/SRT4 peeps in attendance

we are probably going up the I-215 from Temecula - a guy from work is towing my car for me and I have entered him in the SM2 (Street Modified 2WD) class with street tires - then I will switch to rally tires and run it in R2 - should be fun - pray for rain
last years GH1 was run in the pouring rain and we had a blast!! the Glen Helen clay/gravel tends to get just a little bit slippery when wet... it makes for some interesting turns...
here is a pic from last year's mudfest rally-x .. this Mustang was entered in the 2WD Street Stock class and was rumored to be on loan from one of the local rental car places.... never, never buy a former rental car!!

1 day left til' Glen Helen 1... a few Neons pre-reg'd and 3 SRT4s (well... mine is entered in two classes cause the guy towing me up in running my car in the Street Mod class with street tires on it & I am running in the Rally class)
you better watch out there jack, i just picked up some mudflaps from sparco today.....now i'm gonna really kick some ass......lol
can't wait since i missed the last two and rain should be fun. probably should convert my intake to short ram though so i don't bury the filter in the mud. you gonna meet up at the gas station off summit or just go straight there? in any event, i'll see you there.
Well Jack it looks like you are doing pretty good so far this year. I'm hoping to get to come out to one of the April events but I'm not sure just yet. The video of you at Ridgecrest was great. Can't wait to see the photos from this weekend. Keep up the good runs and good luck on the championship this year.
