[quote=rockitwerks. Well so how did it go?[/QUOTE]
there is a problem in the section of pipe that goes into the fender. AEM does not have a machine that can make that kind of bend. so it is cut and weld then sanded and polished. unfortunately the company doing the welding did not have their jig set up 100% right hence the bad angle that pushes up on the upper intake forcing it to hit the hood.
the problem is NOT in the design of the intake itself.. we put the prototype intake and extension on my car and it fits perfectly. i heard ben talking to one of the higher up's in the company and i must say i he seemed genuinely concearned about this problem there was some talk of buying a new verry expensive machine that can make the kind of bends that they need.
so for now im going to leave the rest for ben to explain..
AEM apologizes for any inconvenience caused from the possible fitment issues of the AEM Cold Air Extension or Cold Air Intake System for the Dodge SRT-4, part numbers 21-425 and 21-426. AEM is currently working on a strategy to solve the problem. As this system is a very tight fit due to the tubing diameter being used, some additional care may be required to ensure a proper fit. In most cases, simply loosening all of the connector clamps and maximizing clearances, and then re-tightening the connector clamps will solve the majority of clearance issues. However, there are some kits in the field which will cause contact between the hood and the intake piping. If you are experiencing this after making the aforementioned adjustments, please contact AEM Customer Service @ 310-484-2322 and speak to Josh, Ext. 203 or e-mail: jsteed@aempower.com. We will need proof of purchase via fax or e-mail of the 21-425 or 21-426 so please have this ready when you contact us.
Thank you to the SRT forums members for bringing this to our attention and for your patience while we remedy the situation. We will make sure that anyone who purchased either the 21-425 CAS extension or 21-426 Cold Air System and is having a fitment problem is taken care of.
Wow, I just read my posts here and I was being an ass.
I apologize. I ran into problems with the kit, and ya'll helped me out and sent me a replacement tube. As frustrating as this whole experience was for me, I have no right to be upset at you guys. You made it work for me and the system is still in my car, and I'm happy with the performance gains and the way it looks. Thanks AEM, and thanks AEMTech keeping us informed about whats being done. Alot of companies don't care about their customers as well as AEM does.
Ok I can't handle this anymore. This intake blows. When I manage to get it low enough, the angle of the upper pipe is completely off from the lower pipe. And the filter ends up pushing out my front facia on the side. I don't think it's a coincidence that sooo many people have had a problem with this thing. This is driving me crazy. My brake booster line is in the way, i managed to bend the bracket that holds it bend down, but it won't bend anymore; the line is hitting a wiring harness. So, I have the intake low, but I'm doing a shaving creme test... putting 1/2" of shaving creme on the pipe and closing the hood to see if it hits and it still does. There is about 1/4" of clearance from the hood right now, and the angle of the upper pipe to the lower pipe is way way off. I don't know what to do with this anymore. I guess I should have listened to the numerous threads complaining about this monstrousity. I can't see how anyone has managed to get this thing in and have a decent amount of clearance from the hood and still had the tubes lined up. A big mistake was that stupid rubber band that connects the upper and lower pipe... this needs to be a flexible rubber elbow. This would give you a lot more flexibility with positioning. I am going to be going to the parts store and seeing if I can find myself one. We shouldn't have to do this. A CAI install shouldn't be this hard. If it is, why are so many other companies CAI's problem-free? There are other 3" intakes out there. Well sorry for ranting, but this is driving me crazy. $241.99 for a headache.
Edit: It's the oil supply line for thr turbo... not a brake booster line.
Thanks for the advice Dropspeed, but I did read the previous page and I will be contacting AEM, but I don't know how this is going to solve my problem. I won't be able to take it to them. But nevertheless, I will. This doesn't change my frustration or the way I feel. This has been a bad experience. I just want others to know that I, like so many others have had a problem, so they can fully understand what they're getting themselves into when they buy this.
Yes, I am definitely happy they are making an effort. They could just kick us to the curb and not care. So I am glad they are doing their part. I have some ideas to correct my problems on my own, but it may require some cutting or I might indent the pipe where it is hitting the hood. I'd much rather *adjsut* the pipe before moving an oil line or messing with my car. So we'll see how it turns out. I am just disappointed that I have to do this on an intake that almost costs $250.00, not to mention my car has been sitting for a few days and I have had no car to drive. But, alas, no amount of complaining will attach the CAI to my car for me. Sooo.... tomorrow is another day and I am going to beat this dirty hoebag skank CAI if it's the last thing I do!
I have just modified the turbo side pipe by cutting 1" off the pipe that goes into the turbo silicone coupler. Now the pipe fits without rubbing. But unfortunately the pipe leading into the fender doesn't fit all to well i think if you cut an inch off the fender well pipe where both pipes connect , the fender well pipe will line up properly with the rubber gromet mount at the battery tray but not to sure if it will line up for the fender well hole i will have to do some more measuring. But as far as the rubbing on the hood goes cutting an inch of the pipe closest to the turbo fitting will make it fit like a charm. But i am unfortunately to late and the damage is done. I will try and call AEM and see if i can get a new turbo pipe seeing as mine is almost worn through and i will cut that one back right away.
Here in Canada the intake sells for $369 on average

Don't cut it, AEM will replace the intake if there is a problem, They are aware they had a issue with a run of intakes and are retooling currently. Just give them a call 310 484 2322
I did contact them 2 days ago and left my phone # and no call yet so i cut the turbo end to stop the rubbing. It was rubbing so bad it is almost worn through the pipe.
It's too late Dropspeed. I already cut it. But I don't really care anymore, I just don't want anything to do with this CAI. I don't even want a CAI anymore. I'm rather sure I am going to purchase the Perrin short-ram on Monday. I guess I'll still give them a call, though, it can't hurt. Thanks.
Any updates as of yet AEM???
I purchased mine from Modern and though the performance is GREAT the fittment sucks to be honest! Yes it slightly hits the hood (regardless of adjustment) the bracket to connect to the battery tray does not come close to lining up and the filter pushes against the fender well!
Again I love the gains it has shown but I would like a better fitting product so when I pop the hood people see a quality fitting product not one with a scratch on the pipe from hitting the hood....
Thanks
