Yeah, just installed the AEM CAI and having the same prob with it rubbing the hood, the portion of the hood it hits seems to only be an extra part of the cowl ducting, its probly only there for a sound deadening for the ducting, but im not sure, I dented that part lightly with a rubber mallet and put simmilar rubber material that comes with the kit (for the battery terminal area) on both the hood and intake, doesnt leave any marks, and only hits SLIGHTLY when i spin tires or durring that ever-so-dreadfull wheel hop. I work for a local speed shop here in Long Island, NY and called AEM and they say i need to speak with the guy there that designed it, and he has fixed 3 or 4 of these himself, that it was only adjusting issues. Im still waiting for his call back.

"That was a NEON???"
Well, it started to rub again this time it was really bad. I think pretty soon I will have a couple of holes in my CAI pipeing I think I am going to cut out the part of the cowl on the frame of the hood. If this isnt a good idea somebody please say so. Also I think I am going to try and reinstall the CAI. If I can get it to not rub ever again thats great but I will always be mad about the CAI pipe because it looks like sh#t now. Maybe some High temp touch up paint will do the trick or maybe AEM could let me exchange for a new one.
Hello all and AEM! IT IS NOT JUST AN ADJUSTMENT ISSUE. I am to the point that everyone is entitled to their opinion and on some SRT's it is just an adjustment issue but others it just does not fit period. I find it very interesting that it has been stated there are fitment issues because not all SRT's are the same but when you call you get different information. The first eye opener should have been when many customers complained of the same thing. From the west coast to the east and from I am sure young teenagers to well seasoned adults. I was told that the first batch made had fitment issues but now AEM has fixed that. If that is the case then why is their not a recall. So spending hours too days "trying" to get it to fit is the norm, not in my book.

ben/ AEMtech just got off the phone with me. i am taking my car to AEM on friday and we are going to try another CAS on my car and take more pics so that we can see where all the potential problems are and get them fixed. i will post again on this thread after we are done working on it on friday. hope this helps ease everyones mind knowing that he has aknowledged that there may be a problem and if so he is going to fix it.
As you all know, fitting a 3" pipe in this engine bay is going to be tight, so there is little room for error. Below are two important steps you can take to improve fitment and make sure that the pipes will not rub against the hood.
There is a hard line underneath the upper intake pipe. Rotate the spring clamp so that it is facing down toward the ground. Since all cars are not built the same, that hard line might be higher or lower on different SRT-4's. If your hard line is placed high in the engine compartment, it is possible for that line to push up on the upper intake pipe. If your pipe is close to the hard line, then you will need to lower the hard line no more than 1" for clearance.
Make sure that the upper intake pipe is in deep enough into the rubber elbow at the turbo. This will pull the pipes back away from the hood.
Someone mentioned that there were a bad batch of pipes and that AEM is revising them, but this is false. I have personally checked production pipes against the original and its fixture and found no differences, and we have test fit this system on a few different SRT-4s.
I am however getting another SRT-4 (stillslow) in so that I can provide more pictures of the installation, detailing the close fitment of the system and how to make sure your pipe does not rub on the hood or hard line. I will post these as soon as we get the car in, and will advise everyone of the status. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and for your support.

Ok, my problem is the instructions do not allow for proper installation. Have these been revised? Is that what you are going to do after installing it into stillslow's car?
It's all well and good that someone at AEM can install the intake properly. Who cares. If a good number of your customers are having installation issues, then there is a problem, regardless of how well an AEM technician can "force" it into the engine bay.
We all can't take our cars into AEM and have them install it for us.

i just installed my aem cai on the 3rd and mine is rubbing the hood to. My intake also didn't come with the rubber piece to protect the piping from the battery.

readclose Well all I know is that my pipe looks like crap because the paint is missing and its also dented. Not to mention my hood is missing paint also. Thanks for mentioning anything about the hardline in the instructions!! I think that they should have been more detailed

Oh Ok! So move the hard line to get the upper intake pipe to sit lower and yet............................. their are no fitment problems. (I DONT THINK SO) I certainly get it as that makes perfect sense. Sorry for the negative attitude but this is just wrong. What is the ratio of................... no fitment problems : fitment problems ???
