The viper may have been the fastest/quickest car in C&D, it wasn't the best car. While raw power is nice, it takes more then that to make a car complete.
Just look at the csrt4 for example, it's still one of the fastest 4 bangers out there, but most people on this site wouldn't dare own one for one reason or anyother, even though it hangs with a stock srt, and is being proven to be very mod friendly.

I agree with you some what.
when you buy a sports styled car, you expect to handle rigid.
also your not paying 200,000 for a performance car
i think Bugatti is a 1,000,000. (Its fast and smooth).
viper and vette and even srt4, cobras, srt chargers and so on. They are all intened for cheap performance over luxury -and low cost.=sales. There are more mustangs and vipers than mclarens on the road. The viper and new vette along with the saleen(not sure how much it is) are basically cheap high HP. These cars will run with the best and have proven so. A venom 1,000(not the fastest built viper) beat the Bugatti on the minikey<--not sure on spelling mile.
Now i know that if it was an all out the viper may lose do to body dynamics. Ill take the price difference though. What do you think?

The reason i don't like.. and a reason most dont like the CSRT is because it looks like a Mini mini-van.
The viper looks like it will hand you your ass if you dont respect it.. and thats exactly what it will do.

The Viper has more than raw power, it's a streetable track ready car. Is it as 'advanced' as the GT-R? No, but that doesn't stop it from kicking the GT-R's ass on the track. The idea of what makes a car complete will differ from person to person. Some don't give a shit about leather or cup holders or how loud my stereo is, or how smooth and quiet the car is, they like performance.
Therefore, if Car and Driver wants to do a review of cars and have things like smooth comfortable driving take precedence over the actual performance of the car, ESPECIALLY when it's an comparison based on performance, they compromise the integrity of the tests.
Of course, it's VERY likely the almighty advertising dollar played a huge part in this particular comparo.

lol didnt nissan hire a professional driver??? i want to see the time with a seasoned vet at the wheel
And what makes you think that their engineers aren't professional drivers or capable of beating "professionals"? Just as an example, here's the director of GM's Performance Division who has been known to take cars out for development work on the 'ring and other tracks. You may have seen him before winning national championship races on SPEED.
Yeah but there is a reason they are engineers not professional drivers.
engineers probably make 2x as much cash

I would like to see the lap time John Heinricy can put down on the Ring. Being a seasoned professional driver, I think John has a few more professional podium finishes that suggest he will accomplish a better time.
When the ZR-1 goes to bed, it checks the closet for the Viper ACR.
You just brightened my morning.
