Default Z28 vs SRT4

Im having trouble deciding on both of these cars although they are completely opposite of each other!

Z28
5.7 LS1 ~ Runs Forever
RWD
Killer Look
Upgrades are cheap
More hp : $
17city/25hwy for a v8!
Cons:
Handling not that great stock
Harder to find 6 speeds than A4's
Warranty (100% of fbody owners tell me u dont need it)

SRT4
Turbo
Light
All are manual
Pretty cheap to upgrade
Good handling stock
Warranty
Cons:
FWD
More $

The opinions here might be biased don't you think????

I say whichever one you think you will enjoy more.....
I guess it also depends on the deal as well...

depends on the year of the Z28, whenever the last body style was.

However, if you're considering vehicles in the SRT-4 price range, and want a camaro...get an SS.

The reason I came here is because theres a variety of people here, theres a majority of people here that will give you an honest unbiased opinion. Im going to be looking into a brand new 05 srt with the least options, probobally just SR. As goes for the z28, most likely gonna test drive a 2000 which is the first year with the ls6 intake manifold. Im leaning towards the z28 a bit because my buddy is in VIP racing and can help me out a shit load. The srt is calling me out too though, it handles alot better than I expected stock and the shifting/clutch is really smooth and light.

Well it looks like your from illinois. I'm not sure that you want to be driving a rwd during winter months. If this is going to be your daily driver, avoid the camaro. Rain and snow+RWD=Sitting sideways

Well...I am a good person to ask....I owned 5 T/A's. 3 had the LT1 and my last two had the LS1. 2 94's, a 97, a 98 and an 02 WS6.

First off, the first year for the LS6 intake was 01, not 00. And I agree with what the person above said. If you're going to get a 4th gen fbody, definately get the WS6, Firehawk or the SS. The performance factors are NOT any different but if anything it's worth it for the hood. And the wheels if you don't care about getting aftermarket.

Anyway, you're right about the handling part. I seriously enjoy my SRT4 better than I ever did my fbodies. It's more fun to drive and I have more room...ie...back seat and trunk. And it's almost as fast. At least fast enough to satisfy me. As far as aftermarket, there is just as much for this car if not more. And it's not really more expensive. You spend 3,600 for stage 3 and it is faster than the fbody would be if you spent that amount.

The one thing I miss ofcourse is RWD and the sound!! I loved my borla exhaust and I had long tube headers and my shit sounded bad fucking ass. And I got a lot of looks. I had my shit looking tight. It is really a hard question to answer cause I don't know you or exactly what your taste is. I mean, they're two totally different cars. If you like the look of the SRT4 as much as the fbody and you care about having more room, then that's what you should get. If you really care about the sound of a V8, more straight line power and don't care about having a small ass back seat and virtually no trunk, then the fbody is the way to go......

If you have any more questions about it...you can E-mail me...james.adams@dm.af.mil

I was about to go buy a trans am, I was actually going back to my house to get my mom so she could drive me there and I could drive it back. On the way there I saw the last srt in the showroom and I picked it up right there!

srt-4 is more practical. I would say it is less fun to drive though (RWD is infinietly > then FWD).

I had a 97 (LT1) with t-top and a 6 speed, at least I got some respect on the street and of course, looks from the laddys! Actually any of my friends that were women all were very "proud" to bee seen in it... as odd as that sounds. Even odder, more girls form my past made sure to wave "hi" at me when they were with there other girl friends... that isnt happening in my neon hahaha.

If you are going to mod them, at least you dont get any drivabiity issues with the LS1 as you would with the srt4 (part throttle boost).

And really, an LS1 is waaaaaaay faster. People talk about the srt beeing top end happy... it is not compared to the ls1... and you can have fun nailing first gear. My srt is stock and first gear is a no no.

the camaro I had was more comfy to.

The t-tops were worth it alone.

The best way to compare their performance is this:
The srt4 feels like a lanky, nerdy underacheiver that you have to push hard to get anything out of him (Turbo spool), while the LS1 is like that jock that is a natural at everything.

Oh and that jock is also a stud, all the laddys love him.

ls1 + hotcams + long tube headers + SLP loudmouth - cat + ported TB + a few hours of tuning = 400rwhp + orgasim

that'll cost you around $1.5k

and there are people out there that are running boost on those motors also, so it is possible to do safely.

if you wanna go straight quickly, get the ls1. if you wanna be able to turn, get the srt. personally, im not entering any rally races this year, i just wanted a new car.
