Default Woman exits parking garage through second floor wall

AUTOBLOG.COM | Posted Feb 19th 2007 5:06PM by Dane Muldoon

The photo pretty much tells the story here. A 49-year-old woman, who was reverse parking in a multi-story car park, mixed up the gas and brake pedals and almost ran her car completely through the second floor garage wall - check out the second photo after the jump.

Looking like something out of an action movie, this nasty situation took place on the January 23rd, 2007 in the northern German town of Langenhagen. Apparently the automatic gearbox was the villain according to the woman, who was thankfully unharmed but no doubt received the shock of her life. Wonder if anyone was walking down the sidewalk underneath when it happened?

A similar, but worse instance of this happened here locally in Virginia Beach, Va a couple of years ago. The car backed through a 5th floor wall and went airborne, flipping once and landing on the roof. It killed all four people in the car(newer model Accord Sedan). I think I remeber two of the victims were children and the family was on vacation from somewhere up north(NY, NJ, MA)

Very Tragic.

when I was a kid visiting my grandparents their next-door neighbour (a woman--for statistics) drove through the back of her garage, through her fence, through 4 metal trashcans, made a u-turn and slammed into by granddads Buick. We ran outside and she was trying to back out and run away (as if we couldn't have figured out who the culprit was). We stopped her and she started crying and screaming "It wouldn't stop! The harder I pressed the brake the faster the car went!"

well teh solution is clear. we need to start implimenting stricter crash tests to make sure they are safe after falling 5 stories onto their roof. i hope the family sued honda, its completely unacceptable that the car didnt hold up

I dunno... I don't think women are in general just bad drivers. I think they just got a loose wire up there that occasionaly just shorts out, and they do something realy stupid. My girlfriend is a fine driver, but when she was taking her driver exam, the instructor told her to turn right at a stop sign and she went left.... who knows...

I can't believe that they don't build parking garage walls tougher..esp. 5 stories up.

The parking garages shouldn't be held responsible for other people's stupidity.

I agree with him. No the parking garage isn't responsible, but it isn't like she was backing out at 30 miles per hour..it couldn't have been very strong.
