Default Why SRT4 over a Cobalt SS?

In the market, just wanted serious opinions... and not so serious ones if you want.

Never drove one or sat in one so I can't really say much about it. My friend drove one and said it's not very impressive, his bolt on rsx-s felt much faster he said. Plus I never really liked how the cobalt looks.

uuh, because the SRT-4 is faster.

The SS's have grown on me though. I just wish they were so slow.

If you want straight line speed srt-4>ss
If you want a corner carver ss>srt-4

But tell me, where do most people race? that's right, in a straight line. Most people I know don't race around on curvey roads, just to dangerous.

...dont forget about the ACR. Some people are saying the improved handling is great.

It's faster. Period.

The is the only benefit really. If you want a slower car for the same price, get a SS.

which ever one makes you haooy to drive to work. do you like nice interiors, then cobalt is the one for you. the srt is a bit outdated but i still like it. the srt is more rough around the edges. it protrays raw power to those that are hear it. if you buy a srt then you mainly buy it for the power and potential. add some suspension upgrades to hug corners.

ps if the word "neon" makes you shiver then the srt isnt for you. good luck

Also depends on how many doors you need.

If you have kids and want a Cobalt SS, get ready to look at a second vehicle too.

Is there any evidence that the SS is better than the SRT-4 in cornering ability? The SRT-4 slaloms at 68.5 mph (very impressive) while pulling a 0.88g in road holding. Not to mention high 13s stock in the 1/4 mile.

my same thoughts.. ss has a soild rear axle. like mini vans haha whereas the srt is 4 wheel independent. I dont know why everyone always bashes on the srt's handling.

anyway 2door vs 4door. turbo vs s/c. 18's vs. 17's. gm vs. mopar. speed vs. not so fast.

i heart my neon

I am not defending the SS, but I can see this car becoming an SRT killer. Simply adding some added fuel control and a different pulley assembly I could see this car beating alot of the mildly modded SRTs. I think that the release of the SS was great, this will give us a chance to prove who rules the roost in the compact domestic market......I have a feeling that the SRT will come out 1st.....but who knows, time will tell.

They both have there advantages and dissadvantages. If you want a car thats easily modded and don't have to break the bank, get the SRT. If you want a car that is more about style, handling and the newest and greatest domestic SCC, get the Cobalt. The SRT is a little out of date, but then again it's been on the road for 3 years. The Cobalt is the new kid on the block as far as domestic SCC's go. I love my SRT-4 and will never get rid of it. I am however liking the cobalt more and more just becuase it's new and differnent then our cars. It's still new and I am sure GM will have planned upgrades for it. They would be stupid not too since the SRT set the standard for domestic sport compact cars.

On another note, don't belive what certain magazines say about the two. Magazine publishing companies get allot of money for pushing the new buzz car. They will make it look good even though we all know the SRT is quicker in the 1/4 mile. Take them both for a drive yourself and come to your own conclusion.

Hope that helps!

Check out the dyno Modern Performance did on the Cobalt SS (on the Modern website). Not very good numbers to the wheels at all. Plus, that was done with a few very minor mods (drop in filter, etc)...

SRT-4 + Turbo = More tuning ability & More power > Cobalt SS = Nicer interior & 18's

The srt-4 has 4 doors compared to SS two doors SRT has more trunk space is better looking in my opinon and is faster so in conclusion you could have a trunk full of stuff 4 people in your car that are comfertable and be smoking a ss at the same time, this thread is ova

I test drove the SS a week and a half ago, and this is what I thought the differences were. First off, the one that I drove did not have the recaro seats or LSD. If your not going to get the recaro seats, dont even think about getting it cause the standard SS seats arent comfortable. Right now, the SS is new so they prob wont haggle as much, so you prob could get a better deal on an SRT-4. The interior was nice, but it like the supercharger did not kick in until 3500 rpms. Seriously, the car felt dead till I hit the 3500 mark and then it took off. I also think the exhaust note sounds alot better on the SRT-4, and the cobalt looks really ricey to me from the backend. The srt-4 has the big wing which is kinda ricey, but the big exhaust tip, and wing on the back of the cobalt was unattractive to me. The good thing about the cobalt is that is has a really nice interior, I hear the recaro seats are very comfy (even though I liek teh ciper inspired seats alot), the car hugs the road very well, and if your going for that sports car feel, it has 2 doors.
