I read alot of car rags and it seams like there are alot of S2000s with 600hp, Evos with 650hp, STIs with 700hp and on and on.
Just wondering why I haven't read about any SRT4s with over 600 hp? Perhaps there isn't anyone willing to spend the cash to build them that high? I understand the only point would be to make a dyno queen due to the power going to waste in tire smoke. Personally, with the exception of drag cars, I think anything more than 450hp is a waste of money and reliabilty. Of course I really am only guessing here. Do the block and heads have the potential, with lots of cash for parts/tuning, to reach over 700hp?
350-400whp is all you need in an SRT4.....anything over that is pretty much useless. Driving any 300+whpo FWD car is a chore
My Bonneville had 370whp and it was on the verge of being undriveable. I sold it to an old lady and bought a Grand Prix GXP, with the LS4 V8. Threw some parts at it and dyno'd 420whp. It ate up the tranny, cracking the ring gear and disintegrated the clutches, not to mention the water pump and motor mounts. There was absolutely no one-handed driving in that car.
Traded that car in 2 days ago for an '04 M45. With just 3.69s (vs. 3.13s) the car is 10x more fun to drive than both Pontiacs combined.
As of right now there is an estimated 25k SRT-4's made, out of those there is possibly about 30-40% of those Modified and the rest are well, just another car to their owners.
There are a few at that power level but they are also making 100 more ftlbs of tq than those honda's,evo's and sti's. We have a great standalone system and more than a few are running it already. Our valvetrain design with good valves and a set of springs can rev to 10,500 rpm without ti retainers.. We have tons of cams available more than any import. It just that not many people are willing to pay the amount of money it takes to make that power. I think from now on people should compare tq curves as a means of comparing engine output. From boost onset to mass falloff. That is the true power measurement. In a quest to build faster more reliable srt4's I have started tuning tq out of these cars. Nobody can put down 580 tq in first gear on a fwd car. The boost jumps up at such a low rpm the tq shoots through the roof and spins the tires. You spend the rest of the gear playing catch up. I now tune the boost curve (with the tec3r built in boost control) to come on smoother. I run a % of max boost at the old tq peak and add it in as the rpm rises. This makes for a table flat tq curve. Which allows you to tune your suspension to that tq level. I run a 3 stg boost setup. 340 tq for 1st gear/420 for second and 510 for 3/4/5 gears. And yes those are tq numbers you have to wait for the hp#'s Just wait for this car to run the 1/4.. awsome 60' great 330 and amazing trap speed.

Dude its a NEON nobody wants to see those pieces of junk in magazines, so they just decide to not build them! and because this > is all they will do with #'s that high...lol!
