tell her she needs to get the autorities in on this, this is the second type of thing that has happened to her like this...identity teft is a felony...and soon to be a federal one.

sounds like she has a Trojan Horse Virus installed on her computer intercepting all her IDs and passwords. or if anyone else has physical access to this PC, they may have a keystroke logger hidden in the background. she should install a new anti-virus program, do all the updates and run a scan. also run SpyBot and Ad-Aware. good luck...
she says: tell him i did ad-aware...no one has any access to my computers but me....and that i have all new virus protection and it's clean...
she also said she just did all the win updates the other day
could a person get in through an open port? and how would you check for that?
does she has a high-speed connection like DSL or Cable? if so, ask her to check her Network Settings and make sure ICF is enabled (Internet Connection Firewall).
those are both good but might not be necessary. Windows XP has a built-in firewall that does a pretty good at keeping people out- but you have to enable it first. only problem is, if a virus or program is already inside your PC then it won't tell you if information is being sent out. that is where these 3rd party programs come in. Service Pack 2 from Microsoft will finally have this feature, and should be out in the next month or so. (i have the beta installed now).
just tell her to start by going to this website: http://www.grc.com/default.htm. scroll down and click on "SHIELDS UP" under 'Hot Spots'. then click "PROCEED" and finally "ALL SERVICE PORTS". this will test her pc for any open Internet Ports that may be vulnerable to attack.
if it's finds some, then tell her to make sure the Internet Connection Firewall in Windows is enabled and try again. if it is still showing open ports, then go ahead and check out some of those 3rd party firewall programs that WildMouseX mentioned. hope this helps...

turbo4life, are you related to lifeisdeath?
If you have nothing to offer the thread, other than your incredible ability to toss around inane opinions, please step up to the plate...

This is the result I got from that GRC port scan. You should be seeing the same thing:

Your system has achieved a perfect "TruStealth" rating. Not a single packet — solicited or otherwise — was received from your system as a result of our security probing tests. Your system ignored and refused to reply to repeated Pings (ICMP Echo Requests). From the standpoint of the passing probes of any hacker, this machine does not exist on the Internet. Some questionable personal security systems expose their users by attempting to "counter-probe the prober", thus revealing themselves. But your system wisely remained silent in every way. Very nice.
