GERMAN CAR SCENE | GERMANY - - Auto Zeitung has reviewed the IROC concept from Volkswagen.
The IROC is powered by a 210bhp TSI unit, transmitting power through a DSG gearbox. Performance is brisk, with the IROC hitting 100km/h (62mph) in 7 seconds, and on to a top speed of 245km/h (152mph.)
The IROC Concept looks to be slightly more hardcore than its Golf brother, weighing 100 Kilos less, than the Golf and coming equipped with a built-in fire extinguisher and four bucket seats. It?ll be interesting to see if they make it to the production model (doubtful.)
How do you hit 60mph in about 7 seconds with a car like that and 210hp? Racing seats?!

"Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure -- one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it." David Rockefeller, Memoirs 2002 The World Needs To Watch This
The 40-year-old I6 in my Jeep Cherokee ended up getting rated for nearly that much HP.
I can dis that car because with all it's star-trek styling and high-tech engine, a 2003 Nissan Maxima, like the one my father has, is a whole second quicker to 60.
If it made 300HP, cool. If it made 210 HP and ran empty pen cartridges or grass, bitchin'. Nope, it runs on gas.
Even a nuclear-powered 210HP car would be unimpressive, especially if it was that slow.
I guess you're just missing the fact that it produces this amount from such a small displacement and still gets over 35 mpg. Also it's a show car, do you honestly believe that the production version will be this gaudy and vain? No. Also it will probably cost less than a Maxima, if that helps any...
The first Corvette had a six cylinder engine.
The first Porsche was still very much a Volkswagen.
Lamborghini started out as a tractor company.
The original Mustang borrowed heavily from the Falcon parts bin.
The first GTO was a LeMans option package.
The EVO is based on the Lancer.
The R32 is based on the Golf.
The SRT-4 is based on the Neon.
Judge not humble beginnings...
How are they using the IROC nomenclature? I thought that was a registered acronym for International Race Of Champions and had to be licensed for use, like Dodge did in 1990 when they bought it away from Chevy?

The only IROC that deserves that title is the IROC Z28
Well IROC was around longer than the IROC Camero was around. It's the international race of champions. Also they called it the IROC because it's part of the name S IROC CO. Jeeze talk about dense....
