Well I started F.I.U in the fall. School is not bad, but I'm just not sure if this is what I really want to do. I want to work around cars and motors. I am going to school for Mechanical Engineeering. The class are not hard I just feel as though I don't belong here. So while I was watching late night Speed TV I saw a commerical for UTI. It seems pretty interesting, and the benefits of going there seems really cool. But I'm not sure if it is smart to switch from a University to a Tech school.
Does anyone go to UTI? Would you guys switch from the University to tech school?

i went to uti for about 6 months, i quit because i really wanted to do carpentry work, working on cars was more of a hobby. Good school, very good teachers, and things are set up very well. I would recommend it, but on your choice of switching, thats all up to you bro. UTI will set you up an apartment you will share with 4 other people, and you pay around $265 a month for rent, and there a lot of places around there to find work. I went to the campus in chicago. I went from living in the country, to living in chicago, WOW, now that was diffrent, kinda freaked me out. I hope this helped.

Thanks for the positive feed back. I am leaning more to UTI. 265 a month is not bad at all. I pay 2700 for 4 months, so that is awesome. Plus I need to find a job but everyone in Miami speaks spanish and if you don't know spanish you won't get a job. But I'm just worried about finding a job afterwards. If you have a degree you can do anything. If I go there I can only work on cars. Which I want to do but if there is no demand then I am screwed.
there is plenty of demand, places like BMW and mercedes are always looking for good people with good skills, trust me, you will learn a lot there, and they have a job placement program. You don't even have to work for a big company, there are several smaller companys around here that pay very good money to the ASE certified mechanics. There is always a need for people who have the skills and know how, i don't think you will have as much trouble as you think, finding a job with the skills you will learn from there shouldn't be a problem. You could even broaden your skills and take their gas and diesel courses, that would increase your chances of getting work a lot. Just my 2 cents
I would say that you should stay at the University. Nothing for your career could be more valuable than a degree....:Readclose If you don't like FIU, maybe you should try another school. If you cannot find a job, go to another school. Once you graduate with a degree, than you can get a real job in the industry you studied for, and attend UTI part time. Having both a Tech School background and a college degree I bet that you will 1) Get paid much better, and 2) Work for a better company such as Mercedes, or maybe even an exotic company like Porsche or someone else!
But if you really don't like the college environment than maybe a traditional school is not really for you.
There is a couple of options you have for automotive schools. UTI, Wyotech -Wyoming tech, DADC - Denver automotive and diesel collage. I would suggest checking them all out. I went to DADC. I like the school had fun and learned alot. All of the schools have websites. If you have questions about DADC, shoot me a PM.
