Update: SHO Me The Twin Force, Baby! Rumors Of Performance Taurus Tease The Interwebs
JALOPNICK.COM - - FoMoCo forums are all atwitter with people claiming to have the inside skinny on the possibility of a Super High Performance version of the Ford's newly renamed Taurus. So what have we heard thrown over the back fence from Dearborn? Well, we're getting tios that a high-performance model of the Taurus is undergoing testing in Dearborn. We've also heard, and I dunno how much stock I'll put in this one, but it is from one of our reliable sources, that
"mills with both TwinForce and Yamaha are being tested...the only thing I'm worried about is that it may not reach production...more of a feasibility test, but we shall see."
But on top of our own sources, Blue II over on BlueOvalForums, a member who's called almost all of FoMoCo's most recent bold moves is now claiming:
"Not sure if this is Mulally news but Taurus will get the Twin Force engine. Not sure if it will be called SHO though."
The Twin Force, as everyone remembers, is the new 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo direct injection engine debuting in the Lincoln MKR concept. The Twin Force delivers 415 horsepower and 400 foot-pounds of torque - comparable to and better than some V8's. We don't know how much, if any, of this is true, but as a reminder of what could be, we've reprinted the 2009 SHO Concept pictures from BringBackTheSHO below. ? I think it's a great idea, but the one thing I love about my SHO is the induction sound as the secondary intake runners open and it's screams to 7800 RPMS!! I don't think I would buy a new one unless it had a Yamaha motor. I LOVE THAT THING!!!

Still a good concept, hope it makes it to production. Trashing the Taurus was a shot in the foot, and the SHO has a cult following.
+1 on the secondaries, they sing a lovely tune!
Back when I had my 1991 SHO+ I would love hearing the secondaries open up. It sounded even sweeter when I took out the stock air box and replaced it with a K&N cone filter. Once 4000 rpm hit BAM! Here come the secondaries!

nobody even noticed that for the last couple of years the SHOs came with a yamaha V8...that has evolved into the unit Volvo uses in the XC90 V8 AWD and new S80 V8 AWD sedan

ive always thought of Yamaha engines as worthy of praise they just havent ended up in anything special yet....atleast in the Volvos....they make decent power...are transversally mounted and are capable of fitting in any Volvo derived platform....Five Hundred being one
It's the third gen's you're thinking of. The V8 they put in it wasn't totally done by Yamaha, just the heads. Had 235HP but was killed by a 4-speed auto with no manual option. The best ones in my opinion are the 1st gens. Really nice interior (chrome bits instead of plastic) and they were lighter. What an awesome car the SHO was. Too bad they never advertised it well enough. It was pretty expensive back then too.
