Default Ultra-light Javan R1 headed for U.K., U.S. markets

Ultra-light Javan R1 headed for U.K., U.S. markets

LEFT LANE NEWS - - British firm Javan Sports Cars has created a new sports car called the R1 — capable of hitting 62 mph in 3.6 seconds, and 100 in 9.8.

Weighing just 1,430 pounds, the car is powered by a 2.0-litre 4 cylinder i-VTEC DOHC engine developing 220bhp at 8600 rpm. A six speed gearbox provides a wide selection of gear choices all the way up to the top speed of 155 mph.

The standing quarter mile takes just 12.2 seconds, Javan says. The total "on the road" price will be £30,139 in the U.K. A left-hand-drive version for the United States is also planned. A U.S. importer has already been appointed, and more details will follow in the near future.

Ehhh....not a fan. And why do all these companies always use Honda engine's? Why not throw an engine that actually has some torque. Hell I'd like to see a SR20DET in there or the engine from a Cobalt SS or SRT-4

Weight doesn't always have to do with safety, weight, in the wrong places, will actually make a care less safe. This is probably a good example of, correct me if I'm wrong, active safety. A lighter car will be able to swerve out of the way of an in coming car or accident rather than a 5500lbs Tahoe would.
