Im on my way back from the Texas mile. We set a world record for the Rx7 196.2 mph. All motor I'll post pictures up and a video I got alot of video, interviews from the drivers. I'm on the iPhone and tired I got parts at home waiting to be installed. Racerx out!
Some how I pictured Justin as much older.
And DAMN Mark is short :P
you guys are a riot! I'm actually 5'7".... I have better aero than you big dudes!
Left to Right here goes-
Russell (6'7" 350lbs) Mike's friend from TX as a kid
Sean (RacerX) our buddy with a built SRT4 from Bay Area, CA
Justin Samberg fabricator
Mark aka GNX7
Mike aka LS1-FD
Fred and Eric who are both Mike's buddies from TX San Antonio area.
We drove the car to/from the event from San Antonio which was around 100 miles each way. Didn't even have a trailer at the track if it broke down.....
The yellow Lambo caught fire which we believe was an oil line rupturing. Big fireball at the big end. The rear plastics and engine compartment were toast but repairable. Maybe next time Underground Racing will put a real fire system in their conversions. It had none. Burned off the parachute when it was released also!!! He still crossed the line at 198mph which was nutty to watch!!!! IMO the Lambos were some of the most impressive cars there. One day I will own one of those with a twin turbo setup.
The rules at the TX Mile are pretty lax but there are basic ones which are to be followed by everyone. Some of the Porsche guys had bolt in 4 pt rollbars and that was all that was required to hit 190mph+.
The tapework you see in the pics is all that we did. In 8 total runs it didn't really allow us to experiment that much. Both oil cooler vents were taped shut. We wanted the radiator to be fed fresh cool air as the intake filter is there as well.
I think the car would go 200mph n/a in 1 mile with a front air dam, lowering the car, tires that are less wide, and a vented hood with a small rear spoiler. In its current form it would easily go 200mph with more distance. I think Mike and I may have both hit that speed already as we stayed in it for a couple seconds after crossing the finish line
