Buy a 98 neon 4 door auto, 115K miles. Decent shape, looking to pick it up for the winter to drive. Its my bosses old car. I could pick her up for $500 bucks. I drove the car yesterday, and it drove good. Worth it??
Only thing it needs is new rear brakes, and possibly 2 new tires. New tires for this car is like 40 bucks. Rear brakes are drums so just need shoes and hardware.

Ask when the timing belt was replaced
Make sure the trunk is dry
Check out the front motor mount for destruction
Look for a steel headgasket
T-belt, water pump, along with cam seals, crank seal that was done at 68K miles. Trunk is DRY no rust anywhere. Idk if the head gasket was replaced or not.
The stick-shift conversion is definitely recommended; better milage, more fun.. check out neons.org for the best neons out there though.. (although some of them are just bodies).

$500 for a car that runs, and has no issues isn't a bad deal. Heck...I paid that much for my first car and it had no a/c, locks didn't work, windows only occasionally and overheated after about 10 miles or so.

Good deal then. If it was done it would be with the t-belt and others. If it wasn't it's probably the newer design and didn't need it.
Sounds like a great deal!
