RT Shadow's Automotive Ramblings

I figured I'd create a thread where I just toss in my random thoughts on my vehicles, or vehicles I've seen, or whatever. I can't compete with Hemidakota (is he doing okay btw, with my own life changes in the last 2 years I've lost track?).

I pulled the SRT out of the storage unit this past weekend, tossed on what may be the last set of new KDW-2's in existence to replace the old rubber (you could see threads on one of the tires.

She's at 58,500 miles these days. In the last two years I've maybe put 5K miles on her. This is the third set of tires. The first set got me to 35K miles, and the second set, well, probably just as good a set but I kept modding... and that seems to be detrimental to tires? Who'd of thunk?

I had to toss in a new battery also, I get about 3 years out of the mopar batteries but I want to keep the car as factory as possible. Believe it or not I put the Walmart Everstart batteries in everything else I own, we have about 100 different vehicles that need batteries on our farm, and we've found that dollar for dollar, the Everstarts are top dog.

As a lot of you know, I purchased a Chevy Cruz Eco in April, and it's been really awesome so far. I wanted the stick but found a slightly used automatic with like every possible option... the previous owner had even installed window tint (would have been my first purchase if not). I average about 31 mpg, up to 40 if I'm 'trying'.

Anyways, I went right from my Cruz into the SRT-4, and I remember people years ago talking about how the SRT-4 felt like you were "sitting in a truck", and I always thought that was funny. Well, even going from the Cruz into the Neon, it is true. It took me a couple hours of driving to even feel safe going into corners again, by comparison with the lowly Cruz (which, I gotta say, handles really well for a strict 'economy car')

With a 6 and 4 year old, who will obviously only be getting bigger, I'm looking at the current crop of V6 SUV's on the market. I still really like the Jeep Grand Cherokee, just wondering if any of you have or know someone who has the V6 (newest model/engine only) and how it does MPG wise?

He works in a different section but I saw him a month or two ago and he seems to be doing okay. Until recently he was still driving his SRT-4 sometimes but not sure if it was passed down to family or he's got other projects going on with it.

By the way the Cruze isn't too bad. I picked up one of the new turbo diesel models a few months back when they started hitting out here. The model is getting a touch long in tooth but has aged well and been one of GM's better models for reliability in recent years.

Eric H. - '04 Neon SRT-4 (eBlue/S2) - '04 SRT-4 (blk/stock & now sold)
'92 Dodge Daytona IROC R/T --- -- '91 Dodge Spirit R/T
plus a couple other turbo Dodges, a Cobalt, a couple Focus, big S/C wagon, and some other stuff...

The new GC's are nice, I don't remember the mileage of the rental I had, but it was a sweet car to drive every day.

I know what you mean about the SRT-4. I've gone from the Focus Titanium to the SRT-4 a bunch of times and it is so much less refined and handles way worse.

I'm getting rid of the SRT-4 this Friday...one of the locals offered me cash and I was already thinking of getting rid of it anyway. So, now I'm on the prowl too.

I'm seriously thinking of swapping the Focus for an ST model though even if it is the wife's car, I'll get to drive it sometimes. I'm mainly worried about the DCT in the darn thing. It has turned into a bad shifting, noisy pile of poop some days and others, it's fine.

Now, what should I get...hmm...

Your SRT-4 handles poorly because you roll DRs

But truthfully most sport compacts handle better than the SRT-4. Even when it was new.

And you can't get a ST with DCT. Manual only.

Loud pipes and other myths.

Haha, even on nice tires it's like a truck compared to the Titanium.

I know the ST is a 6 speed only. The DCT in the Titanium is giving me the willies. I've heard there is some programming they can do or sometimes the clutch thingys can be replaced. I don't know if I want to deal with it.

I've heard mention of a flash for the tranny that fixes the problem as well. All I know is my wife's Jetta TDI doesn't have any issues with the DSG like the DCT.
