just thought id share some info!
Late word is that a redesigned Neon will bow for 2006, a year earlier than previously reported--and that it will be a sportwagon, not a sedan. With it debuts a new platform jointly devised by Chrysler and Mitsubishi that will serve various compact and midsize cars at both companies in coming years. This platform can be varied somewhat in length, wheelbase and width, allowing several different models to be built in one plant instead of two or more. Such "flex" manufacturing saves big bucks and allows the production mix to be quickly adjusted to match sales demand.
Also to cut costs, the new Neon will offer one or more four-cylinder engines to be built at a new plant in Dundee, Michigan set up by Chrysler, Mitsubishi and South Korea's Hyundai. The single-overhead-cam design can be built in sizes of 1.8, 2.0 and 2.4 liters. No word yet on which ones Neon will get, but the 2.0 and 2.4 seem most likely. As for styling, no one seems to have a clue yet, but we'd look for a sort of scaled-down, less-aggressive version of the big Dodge Magnum wagon. We'll be learning more soon, so keep checking back with us.
u guys may have heard all of this or some of it, just thought it was some good info!
see ya, joe
