Question jeep wrangler question

trying to help my buddy out...his jeep has a heavy "shimmy" when braking up around 50mph...you can also feel it at lower speeds also....he already had his rotors cut once before and nobody from jeep seems to be able to give him an explanation....is this a notorious or common problem with jeeps...any help and info would be great

cut rotors = warped rotors

replace them, cheap and easy.

warped rotors are fairly common on jeeps.

Also a new problem that has surfaced since the removal of asbesotos brakes is "thickness variation" which feels the same as warping, but what is actually happening, is some of the metal from the bi-metallic pads is adding to the thickness of the rotor, but doing it inconsistently. That is what happens to a lot of the newer Grand Cherokees. New rotors and pads at the same time is the best... and Mopar makes a make-it-new kit to replace everything. There is also ceramics available which I don't think are quite as good stopping wise, but will stop a problem if it's adding metal to the rotor, and get rid of that pesky brake dust.

Probably warped rotors... 99-04 Grand Cherokees eat rotors like cookies, other Jeeps as well.

It's almost guaranteed to be warped rotors - assuming the Wrangler's stock.

The grand cherokees have the thickness variation issue, not warped... but the wranglers typically don't have that issue. More likely a warped issue, but then again, you could have something wrong that is not properly distributing the braking force to wear one side out. Maybe rear brakes are out of adjustment?
