IL Exclusive: $220K Shelby Series 2 Slotted To Debut at Pebble Beach

MONTEREY, Calif. — The reincarnated Shelby Series 2 sports car, complete with restyled front and rear bumpers and other improvements, is expected to make its public debut in mid-August at the 2006 Concorso Italiano here.
Even before the first of the cars rolls off the assembly line this weekend in Las Vegas, the limited-edition Series 2 appears to be virtually sold out, with all but a handful of the $220,000 two-seaters already spoken for, according to a source familiar with the Series 2 program.
The Cobra-like Series 2 is the successor to the ultrafast Series 1, which employed a carbon-fiber shell on an aluminum honeycomb frame. Under the hood, a supercharged Oldsmobile DOHC 4.0-liter V8 packed more than 400 horsepower.
The Series 2 will be in heady company at its coming-out party. This year's Concorso Italiano marks the 35th anniversary of Pantera's entry into North America. Designer Tom Tjaarda and Santiago DeTomaso are among the invited guests.
What this means to you: Not much time left to buy a new Shelby Series 2.
