dont know why you would even think of buying a car, much less a performance car at your income level. you could make more working at mcdonalds. hopefull you have health insurance thru your work. if you dont, its very irresponsible to not have some sort of coverage. if you get sick and need medical attention, without insurance, you will be in a hole that will take years to get out. so instead of wanting to spend what little extra money you have on cars, do the right thing and take care of yourself.
rant is now over, and i will exit the nagging parent frame of mind
i appreciate your input...but Mcdonalds def does not make more than me. I work At circuit city and i get health ins and even part time employees are offered ins. as long as youve worked there for atleast 1 year. I was completely convinced you were my mom btw...no offense. Although you make a lot of sense and are very logical.
Eh.... You make around 7.50 an hour, assuming you work full time. That is about what I made when I worked fast food. So the leap isn't that big of one to make. Though Circuit City offering insurance obviously is a huge bonus.
Anyways, as everyone said, a cheaper moddable car would be for you. Ours.. not so much.
Find a higher mileage srt-4 at a dealer. They can be had for $10k. Sell or trade the Taurus. I will assume you can get $1,500 for it. Put $500 down and finance $8k.
$8k financed over 60 months at 11% will cost you $175 a month. 16% will cost you a tick under $200.
Insurance can get trickey. I never had huge insurance payments. When I was 24 I called my ins. about trading my 2001 Neon for a then new 2003 srt-4 and the cost was $25 more a year. Some people get raped though.
Call around every insurance company you can. Even the really shitty ones that advertise on spanish TV.
Life is not worth living if you can't do the things that make you happy.
There are also all sorts of mods you can do on the cheap if its not modded already.
You can apply and get approved online quickly with capital one. They send you a check you can use to buy from a dealer or even a private party.
I have been interested in an srt4 for teh past year or so. Everyone i know with an srt4 has their parents to pay teh insurance and sometimes teh payments. I know about teh car, and LOVE teh look, and capabilities. MY ONLY QUESTIONS ARE: Can i afford this car on $1200.00 monthly? I pay $400 a month on rent...INSURANCE RAPES. There is a SOM SRT4 for sale down teh street, and i wanna look at it. This may be a dumb thread, but i just wanna hear some numbers.....(insurance cost)(payment amount). Im 21 and maybe one of you are of similar age and can throw some numbers at me. HELP....IM SO TIRED OF SEEING THE BAD ASS SRT'S yet i have a taurus.LMAO! THANKS@
Damn you need to work on your grammer skills. Its very bad
If a performance car is what you want, I would look for a more affordable platform. A MkIII Supra (it takes to a lot of basic mods well, just like the SRT-4) can be had for anywhere from 2-6k depending on condition. Only problem with older cars is they are a lot harder to finance - so you would have to pay it all up front
Then again - another problem with older platforms is they usually cost a little $ more mod for mod
Cheapest way to get a SRT.
Just buy a 2gen Neon with a blown motor. (2000-2005)
Go over to ...2gn.org....
Look at there How to Swap SRT Engine thread.
And do a swap.
It might cost you total 5-6 grand.
You would have a neon that would be a sleeper, or you can slowly convert it to look like a srt when you have the money. And you could then get liability for a basic neon.
if you really want an SRT then i would get a new job. i know the economy sucks but there has to be a better paying job out there for you. hell join the Navy or some thing, thats what i did and i got one brand spankin new as an E-2.
Hey don't knock Circuit City. I worked there and afforded health insurance, my SRT-4 and a 2003 Tiburon i had also purchased. I also paid for the insurance for the cars, my cell phone, my food and other stuff. But I didn't have rent to pay at the time.:thumbsup
Also, my brother works at Best Buy and he has his own 3 bedroom/2 car garage house in a great neighborhood, a TT Supra, an Evo MR, a N/A Supra, an Impreza, Civic, more money in electronics than probably almost anyone on this forum and money in his bank account. If you know what you're doing you can make a little money go a long way.
