OK I have to pick a car. I am joining Beat The Heat. I am starting a chapter here in Memphis. I have lots of work to do finding sponsers, getting the city on board, building a car, organizing the track events etc. I will post more in detail later as I am to drunk to type right now. But here is my delima. If I can get the city to donate a car, it has to be a street legal cop car that we drive, I have four choices. A Crown Vic, an older caprice with a 350, a newer impala, or a Intrepid. I know the ups and downs of each, but if you had a choice which would it be? I will also be running an open class car which can be any car as long as it is dressed up as a cop car. For the cars I listed above I have to run a 14 or slower. Of course the point is running consistent 14's. For the second car I can run in the 11 and up class or the 10.99 and under class. So whats your opinions. With the Crown Vic I have all the mustang parts. With the Caprice I have all the Chevy 350 mods. Now these are very heavy cars because they have to be as we patrol in them. Sorry For any misprints as I am very very drunk, we went out for our christmas party tonight.
Yes it would be an LT1 car. I wish we had a Maurader be have not used on in our fleet so it is not an option. We do have one 97 vette but I dont think the DARE guy is going to give up his car as it is his take home car. The good thing is that whatever I get will be a take home car so I will be able to drive it anytime I want.
As far as the second car goes I can have any type of car. I just have to get one from somehwere. I could use my SRT4 as long as I was willing to paint it as a squad car. If I did I would be able to take the whole value as a tax write off. But I dont want to do that as I like to be off duty when I am not at work. What I mean is that I dont want people to know that I am a cop.
If anyone has a car they want to donate and get a tax deduction hit me up. Also any vendors that want to be a sponser pm me or email me at kday2477@yahoo.com
Like I said in the original post the first car only has to be able to run Consistent 14 second quarters. The second car will be competeing in the 10.99 and up, at least until it is fast enough to run in the open class. That is a long way off as my competetion would be down to a few guys but one runs a 95 ZR1 at 7.06 in the quarter, and another a 96 Trans am runs a 6.90 in the quarter.
Any comments are encoureged. And if any of the other police or fireman on the board are interested in starting there own chapter pm me.
so why don't u use your srt4, and then pick up one of the leftover '05s with zero miles as your personal car....I can think of several reasons why that would be like having your cake and eating it too....and I'd push that paperwork thru quick so you can benefit from this tax year.

We have discussed that. I am trying to get a local Dodge dealership to sponser "me" actually the Memphis Police Department. I am trying to get a SRT8 Magnum as the second car though. Still have to have one of the above as my 14 second car.
Any more comments? I think that I may go with the Crown Vic. I am going to try and get Dyno Speed Racing here in memphis to help to sponser the car and they specialize in mustangs so they would be able to help alot.
either car you choose, just wanna say good shit in getting this set up and organized, if there were more like you, cops reputation wouldnt be totally assed.

Thanks,
It is alot of work to get this set up. I have been working on it non-stop for going on 3 weeks now. As of right now it is all on my own time. There is alot of foot work to be done before I can get the city on board. Once I do I will be able to do alot of the work while on my normal tour of duty, although it is turning into a 24 hour a day job. I love cars, I love racing, and I want for people to see that there are those of us who care. Right now I am working with the BTH orginaization, NHRA, and Memphis Motor Sports park trying to get it all together. Once I have that done I have to get the word out to the people on the street. I dont want to make this sound like I am not having fun because this is really my dream job. I will get to remain a police officer, but will also get to drag race at a semi professional level as part of my job. I am working on getting my NHRA license right now which is not cheap. But it is going to be worth it in the end.
If I am succesfull here in setting this up, I plan on getting the word out to other citys and help them set up similar programs. The more options we as racers have the more fun this sport will be. If it all works out you will be able to race here on Beat The Heat night for around $5 to $6. You cant find a better place to spend that kind of money any where.
i have no opinion of cars, but the idea itself is cool as hell, good luck and show us pics and vids when they come

She will be missed!!!
My 92 Vickie was A LOT faster than the new Crown Vic PI's I loved that car. My Marauder is an awesome car. I would go with the Vic, the Caprices are much too big and really not as good looking IMO.
If you get a black Vic with a black grille, tinted windows and cop wheels. your set. Its a hot ride and slap a supercharger on her
My 03 Marauder provided by the fine state of MA (not the best quality pic)
