Default I hate dealers!

Okay, I have this customer that I've been working with for over a year, nice guy. Comes in with his wife about every other month looking at getting an
SRT-4. Likes our silver one with a sunroof MSRP 21,690. Well, he called me today and tells me that he visited several other dealers and tells them the following:
(forgive me I'm paraphrasing)

"I'm already buying one from Hinckley Dodge but if I were to pay you cash right now for this one, what would you let me have it for?"

Then the sales guy (according to my customer) says:

"Oh I'll sell you this one for 19,600 out the door."
That's basically selling it for 1500 back of invoice 18,250 + 6.6% sales tax and fees. I flat out told him that the dealer was lying his ass off to him just to make him think that I was charging him too much. I told him that I had worked with him PATIENTLY for a year and that he basically OWED me if he decides to buy one, that he WILL buy from me. I'll even discount the car 500 bucks from MSRP even if I have to buy the car from another dealer to get him a deal (all I have are $21k models with kicker or sunroof) I was very frustrated that dealers will lie to a customer in that manner just to try to screw up someone elses deal. So I hate my own kind. Isn't zat veerd?

No offense to your proffesion but you all seem cutthroat to me. I always approach a car salesman with the mentality that 90% of what he tells me is bs and that he his going to do his level best to rape me. I walk into a dealership with a pencil some paper and a calculator. I also usually talk to my dad on the phone about the procedings while I'm actually talking to the salesman. They usually find that unnerving.

Your assumption is a little bit off, 97% is much closer to accurate. Why do I feel like a flea among giant raving, lying sacks of shit?

Oh I know you try to rape your customers as much as possible too. I don't begrudge you that, its your job right? It is up to the customer arm himself with research. Also I love to just walk out on a salesman. You guys try like hell to keep us at that dealership don't you. When I bought my 04 SRT-4 I asked to be financed with Chrysler. The guy told me that it would be 14.7 for 5 years. I laughed really loudly and told my Dad this over the phone. Then I tell the salesman.
"That rate is ridiculous, and my dad says he dosen't appreciate you trying to fuck me like that."
I'm usaully a pretty big asshole when I buy a car, but hey thats part of my job right? I mean I won't be rude except in my responses to that 97% bs talk. I'll politely accept your coffe and chit chit about this or that, but I just try to make it known that I know that you are trying to squeeze every last cent out of me. I told this salesman after he informed me that I vould get it as an auto-
"Look I know more about this car than you could ever hope to, all you need to do is give me a decent deal on it."

I had my dad help me with buying it too. I think it was good to be able to speak german about the salesman right in front of him. It helped a great deal. I also have a rather bad dealership closer to me where I drive by, external wastegate dumping in all its glory, quite often. I like to do that, especially when they have a customer looking at the srt outside the showroom.

Actually the way I sell my customers is I go on the angle that Once you find the vehicle you actually WANT TO BUY, the pricing is easy. Within 10 minutes, I'll show you payments, discounts, and all applicable rebates without running your credit and making a FAIR deal. (usually 250-500 over invoice on most vehicles) Does it yeild me more sales? Not typically. Mainly because people are like "that was too easy, there's got to be something that they're hiding" Then they'll go to a "real dealer" get the crap beat out of them, pay a higher price because pride got in the way and they save face. So I say screw them. A woman sold me out for $100 and she had to drive her new truck almost a thousand miles to save 100 bucks. Now how stupid is that?

Yeah that is dumb. 1000 miles is not worth 100 bucks. I got my car for 21k with 2k down and a loan for the 19k through USAA at 3.1% interest over 5 years. And it was one of ther finance guys that made the call for me (I actually talked to USAA personally for the actual loan of course) This was after like three hours of back and forth about the interst rates. The entire deal took over six ours to hash out, I kept wanting to walk out a couple of times, but the guy kept chasing after me with new numbers. I did okay I think, I stayed within my predetermined budget and the dealer got a nice profit margin. I have a Black 04 with viper seats and a sunroof BTW.
I see to many of my fellow soldiers get stuck withoutrages loan rates from anywhere from 17 to 21%. How you can allow that to happen I have no Idea. As long as a salesman runs the numbers honestly and doesn't go back on his agreements then I can work with him. It helps to talk with my Dad on the phone, he crunches the numbers for me and keeps me alert to any funny buisness. My dad was the regional sales manager for the entire north east sector of Pillsbury so he knows what he is doing. He also takes perverse pleasure in harassing car salesmen I'm sure you don't appreciate that, sorry.

I have to admit it must take patience for your job.

I told the guy that I would finance it so he'd give me a better deal, then last minute 'changed my mind'...

Oh you should have heard the conversations I had posing as a customer on the phone when the SRT came out last year.

Me: "Hello? Yea my name is Heywood, and I'm looking for an STR4, you got any?"
Salesman Schmuck at competing dealer:
"Yea I have one here, it's the ONLY one here in the valley"
Me: "Oh, I called a couple other places, they have them too, you sure about that?"
Salesman Schmuck at competing dealer:
"Oh well they must have JUST gotten them today"
Me: Well I want one of dem, how much is em?"
Salesman Schmuck at competing dealer:
"Well, the one I got here is on sale"
Me: "Oh? How much?
Salesman Schmuck at competing dealer:
"27,995 plus tax, license and fees"
Me:
"Wow, that's a LOT, I see them in the motor magazines for $19,995, why you sellin em for so much?
Salesman Schmuck at competing dealer:
"Well sir they're super hard to get and we will only get this one, if you come down maybe we can sharpen our pencil"
Me:
"How sharp can ya make it?
Salesman Schmuck at competing dealer:
"I can probably talk my manager down about 200-450 bucks"
Me: Nah, I think I'll wait a while.
Salesman Schmuck at competing dealer:
"Oh, well Heywood, what's your last name? Oh and your Number?"
Me:
"You got a pen there youngster?"
Salesman Schmuck at competing dealer:
"Yea go ahead"
Me:
"last name is spelled J-A-B-L-O-M-E That's pronounced Jablomee"
Salesman Schmuck at competing dealer:
"Wait a sec, your name is Heywood Jablowme?"

Is that what you guys do on slow days?
My funny SRT-4 story is when I picked my original yellow 03 from the dealership in Buffalo. You see I had ordered it overseas through the Overseas Cars Sales Co. when I was in Korea. Got a killer deal, as I got the 3k rebate for neons in writing before Chryler realized it was an SRT-4 that I was buying. 17k SRT-4 suckers!! Anyway I take delivery and as I'm sitting in the car fiddling with stuff, waiting for the plates to come back, this schmoe customer comes up to me and says
"You shouldn't be in there."
"I bought the thing." I say.
"I'll make a better offer" he says
I wish I could have seen the look on his face when he was told that the car was specially delivered and reserved for me
