I'd say the Caliber Forums guy is wrong this time about the SRT-4, which he believes is not being cancelled. I don't get why Dodge continues to kill off the SRT-4 before having a valid replacement.

Most likely because it's such a small portion of the sales and that downtime creates hype. The caliber srt-4 was mega successful at first, then they were a dime a dozen on any lot. They go hot/cold VERY quickly.

Plans change, and they did. The final decision to ax the 2010 Caliber SRT4 was made very recently, and was noted on recent posts on the Caliber forum.
Well, since GM and Ford are doing away with the bigger motors to make way for the turbocharged four-cylinder motors....I would find it hard to believe Dodge would do that. And not that Fiat is basically calling the shots, well we know how much European manufacturers like their turbo applications.
Whiskers!

Considering the Fiat 500 is being branded as a Fiat only, not any of the Chrysler cars; you won't see an SRT-4, however you might see an Abarth or EsseEsse model.. maybe. It probably depends on how well it sells.
Since they'll be assembled in Mexico, I wonder if San Diego will get the first ones..
The turbo-charged engine will be more prevalent than ever because of the performance on-demand and the mileage efficiency when the turbo isn't spooling. And since every manufacturer must get their MPG up across the board, we will see more turbo applications...and we already are. People are going to want power regardless of how they get it even as the MPG requirements tighten.
So the vehicles may not carry an SRT badge, but it will be a turbo instead of a V6 or V8.
People will end up getting worse milage with turbo cars because they drive as though a stop light is a starting tree. At least that's how it seems around here.
I don't mean performance vehicles. Ford is putting turbos in everything. It doesn't matter what people drive, they seem to act as if the throttle pedal is an on/off switch. I've had people damn near rear-end me when I was shifting gears leaving a stoplight.
