agreed, something on the size lines of the old D50 that preceded the dakota in the first place... Back in the day my friend had a 79 D50 Sport that was white with stripes and a roll bar that was a really nice small truck kind of like this one on Allpar.
Haha, I had an 84 D-50 5 speed and it was one of the most fun, easily the least maintenance vehicle I ever owned.
I did not change the oil for between 30 and 40 THOUSAND miles, I am not kidding, added a little here and there, but at the time I was in college and I didn't even care (silly I know) but the truck just kept on truckin, despite the floorboards starting to rust out.

I did do an un-slammed version of the Caliber - go back a few pages; the nitro-dakota needs some tweaking, and I was still working on a full size Jeep J10 off the Commander.
As part of Chrysler Group’s shift to a brand-oriented structure, Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep will now have their own chief of design. All the brand chiefs will report to Ralph Gilles, senior v-p for product design.
At Chrysler, the design team will be led by Brandon Faurote. Faurote, 37, previously was v-p of advance design, international and color/trim. He worked on the Chrysler Firepower concept, Dodge Neon, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Chrysler Sebring coupe and the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The Dodge team will report to Joseph Dehner, 44, who previously was v-p for production cars, minivans, truck and Jeep design. Dehner participated in the Chrysler Pacifica, Crossfire, 2007 Chrysler Sebring (sedan and convertible), 2001 Sebring and worked on the Stratus exterior.
Mark Allen, 46, will head up the Jeep team. It won’t be a major change for Allen who was formerly chief of Jeep and Dodge truck design. Among his credits are the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500, 2010 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty and the hit 2006 Jeep Wrangler.

Interesting... I am assuming this is outer skin only though and that they will continue to base a number of models in each make on an individual platform?
The reason they can put down decent 1/4mile times is mostly in part to the solid rear axel and its ability to hook and go. But we all know that doesnt mean crap from a dig.
