Everyone is posting losses, but not everyone is filing chapter 11. Chrysler's been fucked for a long time coming. The shitty economy is just the straw that broke the camel's back. Personally, I don't see Chrysler coming through this. If they produced relevant product, then it would be a different story. As their product line stands right now (and based on what's coming down the pipeline) I can't see them springing back to life. They still don't have a Neon replacement four years later

But that is ALL on Daimler, that particular portion of it, it was Daimler that decided to try and make Chrysler into the American version of Mercedes, without one decent small vehicle to speak of.

The idea that 'everyone is posting losses' wasn't a reality for the imports in August, and everyone was talking about how bad it was that American auto makers weren't making money. Then it hit the imports also. I still see the imports getting hit nearly as hard as it is hitting the domestic auto makers.

It's so not "all on Daimler". Sure, they hand their hands in the mess, but Chrysler wasn't exactly perfect before they came along

I think your time line is a little backwards.

Chrysler starts down a slippery slope (thanks in no small part to extremely poor management) > US economy starts decline (making Chrysler's footing all the weaker) > World economy starts to decline (as result of our inability to keep ourselves in check) > Foreign makers experience loss (go figure)

Foreign car makers are struggling almost exclusively because of our failing economy. Chrysler is failing because of its struggling product lineup (thanks to mismanagement).

But, you have to admit, what is going on now is going to heavily address one of the most glaring issues in the Chrysler lineup, that being the lack of a small car, they are likely to get 3 maybe 4 out of the Fiat deal. And whether people want to admit it or not, Fiat is actually a pretty decent car manufacturer these days. At first notice of this deal, I thought much like most people probably did "Oh crap, not Fiat" because of their history, but in the last several years they have really come a long ways.

Now, that being said, Chrysler needs to be a little more inspired on the interior and do some innovative things like they have with the Ram and some of the other vehicles.

While I am not the biggest fan of the Caliber, you do realize that Toyota has a vehicle out right now that is the spitting image of the Caliber in shape and size?

God, I hope so. They need volume sellers and right now, they just don't have 'em (The Crapliber doesn't count).

Are you talking about the Venza or the Matrix? Neither looks like the Caliber to me, and neither has the poopy-ass interior either.

Exact same thing I said when I saw the Venza I see those things like crazy! AND they just came out. It's what the Caliber SHOULD have been

Chrysler needs small cars NOW, so that when we start seeing 3+ dollar-a-gallon gas again they aren't stuck sitting on a bunch of Chargers and 300s.

You cannot compare a Venza to the Caliber. The Venza is much bigger. It's also has one of the nicest interiors I've seen from a non-luxury brand.

All brushed aluminum and carbon fiber trim.
