Chrysler has always been great at making production cars look very similar to the prototype/show car. Challenger is a perfect example. Everybody said it wouldn't look the same and it came out pretty much identical. Anybody who has followed Chrysler for the past several years knows this.
The reason why Chrysler is advanced on the ENVI program is they are actually using their heads for once. Rather than developing brand new cars from scratch just for the hybrid/electric technology (i.e. Chevy Volt), they are using existing models and adapting the hybrid powertrain into them. Pretty smart on Chrysler's part actually. They have said they don't want to just have one or two vehicles with hybrid technology but to be able to offer almost their entire lineup with the option of either a gas engine or hybrid technology.
As posted above, Chrysler has been working on hybrid technology for several years with the cooperation of BMW, GM, etc... Isn't like they just started this stuff yesterday.

You are always talking about Challengers, just stop being so cheap and go buy one!
You're right though, Chrysler is good about keeping true to the concept; Prowler, Viper, Challenger...
