I would imagine the 6.4 and something bigger (7.0L+) are going to be the new halo car, but without the Viper...

I can hear GM laughing in the distance...

Sad, sad day.

what platform was the me-412 built on? if it wasn't part of the ZC program does it mean it is still alive and well behind the scenes?

S/C that HEMI to take place of the V10. V10's soound like poop anyway. I think GM already laughs at the Viper anyway. Beautifiul car but I'd say that it didn't ever perform as expected, of course it was no slouch either.

I hear GM and Ford are moving away from V8's, TRUE??? or Not so true??? If they are I can picture Chrysler/Dodge following suite.

If they rid of 15 cars that doesn't mean they won't come out with 5 others.

I'd like to see Dodge/Chrysler/AMC innovate some type of Electric car craze (power wise). There's been Muscle and Tuners, how bout something that will make more sense and would be all around more practical for today. I can picture stuff like E-Boost, Voltage increaser, etc.

I'd say forget about the ME412 and the Viper and start something huge. And not enginewise.

I would imagine they're looking at production numbers of the various 'Vette iterations, and wanting a piece of that pie. So, I'd further imagine a line of RWD, front-mounted coupes and convertibles that start around the Corvette's (or even the Camaro and / or Mustang) pricepoints and offer lightspeed / ridiculous speed / ludicrous speed versions with rising pricepoints and engines.

Diesels are finally spreading on the market here in NA, and Ford's been talking or turbo V6s... so whatever can generate power on demand combined with better fuel economy is what is on the manufacturer's plates right now. Look at the fuel consumption averages for vehicle lines in Europe, then come back and look at them here. HUGE difference.

The biggest thing going against the Viper was the size of the engine, and the generated HP. Look at some of the other engines out there and their output, and the Viper's 8.4... while a great engine in it's own right... was being outclassed by higher technology, lower displacement engines.

still not sure y they would kill the viper. it's a low production car that has a HUGE fan base. faithful as hell too. just doesn't make sense imo. unless they can come out with something just as good to replace it, they fucked up.

as it is, Chrysler makes no money on the Viper. They are streamlining the brand much in the same way Toyota did 10 years ago. They axed the Supra, and eventually the Celica and any other car that wasnt pulling its weight in the lineup.

^^^my point exactly.
and how can they not be making money with the viper. it's a low production car granted, but there has to be quite the markup on them. well, they better come out with something else after it's (maybe) gone. by 2011 when it's supposed to go axed they could decide against.
the only thing certain in the auto industry is that it's always uncertain.

Its marketing value has done wonders for the Dodge brand...it will be sad if it goes away and dodge becomes the truck and minivan company again...

I laugh at people that point to the vipers PRODUCTION power and claim it to be a pig. There has never been a motor/platform as easily modified as the viper. There are countless 1000RWHP vipers out there. There is NO replacement for displacement.

I've been a life long Chrysler/dodge/jeep person... But I'm officially starting to doubt the company now with this from autoblog...

Chrysler supposedly in talks with M&M to sell Jeep brand - Autoblog

*sigh*
